Default Code

I have a 2010 F150 stx. 4.6l 2v. went on a 900 mile trip then on my way to work this morning check engine light kicks on. I scanned it with my hypertech said i had a P0150 code I work at a Ford dealer and i figured out its usually o2 sensor But i was reading online it could mean something with the pcm? Wanted a little insight before I pay to get a new sensor put in.

Dude, you're right at the dealer, so as you say. You got all the right equipment to check it out. So have some of your friends do just that. Why lose time on the forum?

Or are you just the gopher?

I would suggest you buddy up with the techs in the shop.

There is a TSB for that exact issue for your model year and engine ,,, TSB 13-3-5. This is for a PCM calibration update.

BTW -- just because those codes show doesn't mean they are the problem and need replacement.

Never ceases to amaze me the misconception people have about DTCs. They're meant to denote an issue within a system / sub-system that needs to be diagnosed (usually more extensively).

WAY TOO MANY times parts are thrown-in because Pnnnn "means that < part > is broke".

I've had people spend hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars using the shotgun method of throwing parts at DTCs because they "can't afford to have it diagnosed", only to EVENTUALLY find it was a simple fix. e.g. vacuum hose came loose.

In 1997 my wife bought a 4.6l In 1998, check engine light. Stealership says must have new cat.
Q. They're stainless, don't rust? The catalyst doesn't get used up? What's to fail?
A. Shut up! The dealer is wonderful and knows best! $1,342.65 please.
1999 CEL $1,267.80
2000 CEL $1,462.90
2001 CEL $1,355.68
2002 CEL $1,374.88
2003 CEL $1,289.45
2004 CEL $1,363.75
2005 no CEL, but when in for oil change, dealer told her it must have new CAT
2005 $1,341.85
2006 moved 1,200 miles away from stealership.
2006 CEL but wifey had me take it in to dealer. Service manager read the codes and said, "Oh there is a TSB on this. They just set the threshold unrealistically low at the factory and it causes it to throw a code when the pollution is still only 10% of the EPA allowed value. Just a second and I'll bump the threshold up a notch and it shouldn't ever be a problem again." And it never did!

Dealer #1, charged wifey $10,768.96 for unneeded repairs. Service manager at dealer #2, left shortly after that (because he was uncomfortable with the practices of the dealer) and went to work at John Deere in service department.
