Change the orange mirror reflectors to black...
Anyone else think we need some stickies for the 09-10 forum? There seem to be a lot of topics that would benefit from a sticky at the top.
Anyhow, back to the stated topic, ha-ha.
I didn't even know that you could switch the orange relectors to black until last week!
A big thanks to 2009XLTBFF1fitty for providing me with the part numbers!
right mirror # 9L3Z17E748AA
left mirror # 9L3Z17E749AA
To replace the reflector just stick a small screwdriver into the slit area between the mirror housing and the reflector on the clip side and push the clip in slightly and slide it out. The reflector will bend a little bit and then pop right out. The black replacement plastic pops right back in. It literally takes no more than 30 seconds total for each side to pop out and put the replacements in. And since I really am not a fan of any of the orange on my truck, the end result looks so much better.

The cost is like $12 each - total of $25. The best $25 I ever spent as I absolutely hated the orange reflectors as they served no purpose other than to irritate me every time I walk up to my truck. If I was mechanically inclined even a little bit I might try to turn them into turn signals, but I'm not so I replaced with the black. Anyway - to each his own.

Here's the thread someone started here, but there's a link in it that leads to the original source on post #7. https://www.f150forum.com/f38/mirror...s+turn+signals
For the reflectors themselves, I used VHT nite shades and cleared them with lacquer enamel clear coat. Some will say that the lacquer will deteriorate the VHT, but I haven't had that problem. And it goes on so smooth and flat that I didn't even need to sand it down.
Oh man, you don't need to have any skill to do that mod. Trust me, I've never wired anything before in my life and it took me about 15 mins to do both mirrors. It's stupid easy and you'll feel proud for doing it yourself when you stand back and look at the finished product.
