Chances of tune causing problems?
Well I've searched and searched about tunes and how they will void warrantees and how awesome and life changing they are. But what I've yet to learn is what are the actually chances of a tune killing an engine? How often do people use these tunes and then run into problems cause by them? I'm not talking about cheap tunes either, I'm talking about the good stuff like edge and sct. Have any of you guys had problems with these things?

I haven't had any troubles but if you have any doubts about your warranty, look into Stage 3/5*'s warranty and tunes.
Edit: With a 5.0L you probably have less chances of things going wrong with tuning. Your not adding a ton of boost or anything like that.

Yeah I know about stage3's warrantee. I'm just wondering how common problems are in the first place. I also do have the 5.0

Been using sctx4 and 5* as well as MPT custom tunes with no problems at all for several months now.

It is most often an underlying issue that causes the problem, ie, defect from manufacturing. Now the dealers will blame it on the tune because lets say the part would have failed at 70,000 miles but instead it failed at 50,000 miles due to increase stress from the increased power output. In one scenario it is out of warranty, in the other it is in warranty. So a part that they wouldn't have had to worry about replacing on their dime now is. Thus looking for a tune so that they don't have to pay for it.

Another one could be that if you have a 91 tune and at the gas station they had some bad gas. The tuner would have set the timing table for 91 octane. So it could detonate destroying the engine as the timing would not cut back enough/fast enough as the factory tuning would cut it as far back as it would for 87 octane. Hope it makes sense, but usually it is not the tune itself that causes the issue.

The 5.0 tunes aren't really wringing much more power out of the engine unless you're running a high octane tune (91/93/etc) and advancing the timing. Mostly it's about shift strategy, torque converter lockup, throttle response, air to fuel ratio, and the like. It just makes the truck more pleasurable to drive and keeps it in the correct gear.
