Default Possible EPAS Failure 2012 F-150 4x4

My '12 F-150 Super Crew just lost the steering at 65,000 miles. It was making a horrible noise and then it just quit. This truck has the 3.5L ecoboost.

Any advice or similar experiences? I heard it's a $1,400 fix and I'm out of warranty. Is there any kind of recall or am I SOOL?

No recall for the F150 your kinda SOOL it's an expensive repair but I would not trust anything but Ford parts there.

Rock auto has the rack for alot cheaper than the dealer. Just so you know, very easy to change also.

It's $700+ core thru Rock Auto. How easy is it? I can do typical jobs like alternators, starters, radiators. I do not like tight spaces and it looks crowded there.

AFAIK there are only Ford parts available but I do not trust them either with this one failing so fast.

Its doable on jack stands, very easy on a lift. Unbolt the skid plates, remove the outer tie rod from the knuckles, remove the connecters going to the rack and unbolt. I cant remember the sicket size for the bolt, its very large though.

If its something youre not comfortable with you can have it done at an alignment shop. If you install new inner tie rods, with install and alignments youre talking a whole lot cheaper prices than having it done at the dealer.

Check rick auto again theyre alot cheaper than that, they have motorcraft reman.

I'm not sure if I want to tackle this issue or not but I can tell you I am extremely disappointed in having a problem of this magnitude at only 65,000 miles. This is my first new Ford and having come over from GM it's given me second thoughts. I also recently bought a new F250 for my business and now I'm wondering what kind of gremlins are in that truck as well. This is the reason I buy new.

I just got quoted from the dealer, $1700+ for the repair. I really don't have time to do this myself. Extremely disappointed in Ford with this. Every time I turn the truck on and see "Built Ford Tough" on the little display I want to smash it in.

Hi TheGoose,

Shoot me a PM with your full name, best contact number, VIN, and dealership information; I'll enlist the aid of your regional customer service manager for that steering concern.
