Default 2012 3.5 Ecoboost a good buy?

So locally there is a older couple selling a 2012 fx4 3.5 Ecoboost with only 47000 miles, they are asking 27500. I'm a cash buyer so hoping to get them down to 25000

Anyways I have been reading up on the 3.5s that are 2015 or newer etc but the earlier gens I have zero knowledge of.

So basically is the 2012s good years, issues? Also any good for towing a camper? Would it be smarter to pickup a newer 2015 etc with higher mileage?

On the surface that's a fair price and given today's market, a realistic one. It'll really come down to IF they want to accept your offer.

The early 3.5 engines had issues with premature timing chain wear. Your low mileage example probably won't have that for a while, but it's a $2000+ fix when it happens. The early 6R80 transmissions also all had issues with the "lead frame," which is the assembly containing all of the sensors. They fail and the truck randomly downshifts to first gear on the highway. Replacements are hard to find right now so be careful there, too.

Other than that, they're nice trucks and good for towing a reasonably sized camper.

$25k could get you a 2015-up with fewer features or more miles. If that was my budget I wouldn't be looking pre-2015, just look for a well-maintained example with the features you want and it'd be hard to go wrong regardless of miles.

I had a 2013 3.5 eco and personally I wouldn't touch it!

But holy crap 27,500???

Find yourself a good 2013-2014 with a 5.0 - good solid trucks!!!!

It's what KBB shows as 'real value'...if you put much stock into KBB estimates.

Jesus Christ. $30,000 got you a ‘15+ Platinum 2 years ago and now people are paying that for a ‘12 FX.

If they are slowing, it's because there aren't any. Chips.

Usually 0% implies oversupply. I could be wrong but all 3 are offering so something is up.

I’d try to spend a little more and get into the aluminum body trucks. I paid $2500 more than this and got a 2017 2.7 EB 4x4 with 40k miles. This was a few weeks ago.
