Default Catalytic converter problems?

Have a 2011 F150 with almost 17,000 miles on it. I was driving home a few days ago and my service engine light came on. I took my truck to my local dealership and the service manager informed me that my driver side converter was defective. I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems?

Your truck is probably running rich on the left side. Catalytic converters don't die by themselves. The unburned gas is getting into the converter and destroying the rare elements in the substrate. The converter operates at well over 6oo degrees. Add some unburned gas and you have problems. They should have checked why it went bad or you will be seeing them again. They should last the life of the car barring that they don't rust out. You may have a bad O2 sensor on that side.

Not to be that guy but, what was/is your average mpg? You have an ecoboost right? (Looks like one in your pic.)

it should be covered under the bumper to bumper and after that I think the converter is part of the emissions warranty that is mandated by the government for 7 years or ??? miles?

Should be picking up my truck from the service department tomorrow. They are replacing the converter at no cost. My average gas mileage dropped from around 20 give or take to 14 overnight, a problem I am guessing derives from my emission problems. My truck does have the Ecoboost, which up until lately I have been extremely impressed with. I will post my exact diagnosis of the problem after I pick it up.

My bro in law had the same issue a couple of weeks ago. They replaced the converter, but am not sure if they did anything else.

Well I picked my tuck up from the shop; new converter at no cost, gas mileage back to normal and more power. They also updated the PCM
