Edit: I think I just figured out my problem. I've got a 5.5 bed and not a 6.5 which means that I don't have the pre drilled and tapped mounting points.
Yea, Ford never designed the CMS for the short bed. Bummer, because I need the adjustability of tie downs being placed anywhere across the bed. With some loads, I can't even get down to the stock tie downs.

The next best option are the special Bull Ring retractable hooks designed specifically for the short bed (again, because Ford never designed the short bed to allow the stake pockets to be used, and hence the bed caps don't have access to the stake pockets).

My pet project someday will be to cut down the CMS side rails to fit into the short bed. I will need to make a custom jig/tool to hold in place custom backing plates with welded nuts in between the double-wall to secure the rails.

I will probably use rivet nuts for the mounting bolts above the wheel wells since it's nigh impossible to access from behind.

Since originally starting this thread all the way back in 2009 (wow, long time ago) I have traded my 2009 King Ranch in for a 2014 King Ranch.
Before trading the 2009 in, I took off the CMS to either sell, or try to put onto the 2014.
Unfortunately, neither has happened....
The CMS sits in the corner of the garage as I type this message !!

Anyway, my plan had been to use the Rivet Nuts and put in place on the 2014.

It's good to know that they worked for you on your 2013. It gives me a little push now to get mine installed this summer.

Let me know if you decide to sell; I'm looking for a used set as guinea pigs for cutting down to size to fit a short-bed...

Thanks, but as of right now, I'd like to get it put into my 2014 bed.

It was awfully handy and there have been times I wish I had it.

I even have the bed divider for it that I thought I needed and NEVER used. LOL

I have the bull rings installed on the top of my bed at the four corners. I am going to drill and tap the side holes and mount some additional tie down points. I will fabricate them.

Did you use a special compact router to cut open the front stake holes? I've read that standard routers are too big and can't work because the front stake holes are too close to the cab.

The front stake holes on my 2011 had plastic pop out inserts from the factory.
