Default Any difficulties installing the BakFlip

I have since put a Bakflip HD on also.

PS: Love the Bakflip everytime I use it.

DoubleD,

Any issues when installing the siderails for the Bakflip with the Cargo Management System already installed? Could you post any pics after the BakFlip install. I have the Ford rebadged BakFlip and it included 3 bedrail clamps per siderail, but from your picture it looks like it would be difficult to install a bedrail clamp in the middle of the siderail becuase the Cargo Management System comes up so close the the bedrail cap. Any comments?

On the Bakflip F1 there is a different part number for the rails if you have the cargo rails. Not sure what the difference is.

I did notice the different part number for truck with or without the cargo management system (CMS). From pictures I've seen in looks like only the mounting hardware (clamps) are different. Without the CMS you clamp the rails to the underside of the bed rails caps where as with the CMS you actually clamp it the the CMS rail itself. I've emailed the company for comformation on this and am awaiting a response.

Default screw size

I was looking at the CMS, but decided to make my own. I need to construct a platform system to store gear under and place dog crates on top. I would like to utilize the mounting holes for the CMS to help secure the platform. I have contacted my Ford dealer and gone to different auto parts store, yet no one can tell me what size bolt is used. Does anyone know if these are metric or standard sized?
I also have a small problem and that is the spray-on bed liner filled part of the threads and I'm not sure how to clean them out without damaging the threads.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

I have the Bak Flip with CMS and there was a different P/N to order. You get different mounts that attach to the CMS rail they work fine.

How did you make out? Mine came with the holes, but weren't threaded. I just tapped them out and made my own rail system out of heavy duty half-slotted strut channel. It comes in 10 ft lengths, so I cut one piece in half and now have 5 ft of variable tiedown centered the length of my 6.5 ft bed. I'll have to post some pics.

I was just outside looking for myself how to make a "second floor" for storage by spanning across them...

Newbie here. What you've done is exactly what I want to do, lay another "level" in the bed to use for a bunk while camping, but not to waste the floor space which can be used for storage. Mine don't appear to be tapped either, to what size did you tap them? Pics would be great!

Got your PM as well. I don't remember what size tap I used. I'll check in a bit. Here are a couple pics of what I did (they're posted somewhere else in this forum, too).

Thank You! That is exactly what I need to do. I suspect I an lay a 3/4 inch piece of plywood across the bed right on top of the rail and be all set. Using eye-bolts was also a great idea, good tie downs when the platform isn't in the bed. Bravo!

As I mentioned earlier in this post, I was going to do the same regarding the plywood across the top. But I would also recommend you use something like the smaller size half-slot channel underneath the plywood, spanning across the truck as "supports". To use the the 3/4" alone spanning 5 feet, and only resting on a couple inches on each side, it will definitely sag and probably enough for it to fall with even just a little weight on it.

Anyway, that's my plan. I found a used bed slide I need to p/u this weekend to use underneath. Now I'll have "two-stories" of space in my truck--when I want it. For camping, the top will have a futon mattress that happens to be the perfect size.

Good luck!!
