capping vacuum lines on hubs???

Just an observation, but, with IWE's locked (no vacuum to release them), every single time you turn, you are slowly destroying them, and stressing everything else attached to them, on dry pavement.
This system is straightforward to troubleshoot and repair - there only a limited number of components. I suggest you print out, read and absorb:

And perhaps watch:
I'd further suggest finding another shop that is competent and/or PM'ing our resident IWE expert VTX1800N1. Feller's a frikkin' genius.

Hallstead pa I have read so much on iwe and this four wheel drive system lately my mind is melting. I am just at a loss why it doesn't grind just popping. The pulled vacuum lines is just for a test run to see if it's mechanical or vacuum is failing some where.
Also it can't be hurting much because the awd trucks don't have hubs like these they are always engaged. I spoke to the mechanics extensively before I was convinced to pull lines.

How does the front hub work?
Vacuum = disconnected?
No-vacuum = engaged?
My '99 Jeep Cherokee didn't have locking hubs - they were always locked. With an open front differential in that thing, they were fine just driving around. Of course you're always turning the front drivetrain (axle-shafts, diff, front driveshaft), and it just wasn't engaged at the transfer case if in 2wd.
Would that not be the same thing here?

And the dealer hasn't swapped out the IWE?
It seems like a common enough problem (that the wheel actuator sticks). Replacement seems like a bit of a pain, but certainly do-able.
It just doesn't seem like there's much else to go wrong. I can see why you're frustrated.
Have you tried PM'ing one of the Ford service reps on here? Crystal maybe?

IWE and half shaft have been replaced (IWE has been done twice because of the first dealer I went to), it's also showing correct vacuum at the hub and at the pump and the solenoid.

I am tired of making trips to the dealership this is the fourth time today with no fix still. After they blew up my transmission last time and claimed to fix the hubs I am still left with a three wheel drive truck.
I am more then tempted to pull and cap the vacuum lines and then only need to engage the transfer case is there any harm in doing this for the winter?
I have had enough with being lied to by the dealership and being told to bring it back. I caught them not even taking my truck into the dealership today. They better fix it Monday or I am calling ford and opening a case with them. Or it's getting traded for a F250 with manual hubs I can't stand this terrible setup of a 4x4 system

Today went back in and talked to the mechanic and they are unsure where to go next. It's not grinding and popping if the vacuum was low it is only popping. So now we have capped the vacuum lines to test to see if it's mechanical or vacuum this should answer the question. It is perfectly fine to run with the vacuum hubs locked in. So if anyone has any insight we are kind of stumped.
They also said a lot of f150s have the hub problem but they all grind and pop. Not mine No grinding so it may be mechanical
If anyone can think of anything let me know.

Thank you for posting this update, coley909. I've received your private message; I'll check it out and get back to you as soon as I can. I do see that the regional customer service manager left you a voicemail yesterday, and has another call scheduled by end-of-business today.
