Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio

Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

Thanks for checking in sigpilocal. I am literally out of options. I even disconnected the negative battery terminal for 10 min before my last attempt at this. Still no dice

More info:

After reading through this whole thread and the others pertaining to this topic, which I am also active in, I have come to the conclusion that all the guys out there, including myself, who are having the same issues similar to mine all have the 8" touchscreen with NAV. I have yet to see anyone with the touchscreen/nav report a problem free installation where each listed feature of this update works properly.

I have a 11 MKS with the THX system. Sync Gen 1 with Nav. I am having the exact same problem as you guys. I've tried pulling the battery cable and then reinstalling the software. I've tried doing a master reset, factory reset, pulling the cable and reinstalling the software. I only get as far as the first "Installation Complete". The radio/BT Audio/Line in/Etc are not available until I restart my car. Everything seems to work except the bluetooth audio doesn't reconnect. I am sad to see you guys are having the same problem but I am glad I am not alone. This community is the most vocal. The community for my car is almost non-existent.

I don't think this is the case. I have a 12 fx4 with the basic 3 or 4 line display that is not behaving. All other functions work perfectly...just the BT line in issue.

Yea but I bet yours can be fixed by doing a master reset a couple times or re-pairing your phone. If not try pulling your negative battery terminal for 5 min then reinstall the update. Be sure to do a master reset and clear your phone first though. Unfortunately none of these fixes help us NAV guys though. I tired them all

Update: 2011 MKS with Gen 1 Nav system. I went to the dealer today. Explained the problem I had. Demonstrated the problem I had. They took my car back and "cooked in the latest software". They brought my car to me and it was like they had never touched it. The system still defaults to line in.

The tech said he would call the hotline for assistance and let me know. They were going to charge me $112.00 here in Oklahoma. That is for one hour of labor per the service guy. I didn't hear anything back from them today. Can they charge me if they do not fix the problem? And can they charge me twice as much since the first attempt didn't fix it?

I got this finished on my 2012 with basic radio, no nav. I did a master reset, re-installed the application, and deleted Sync from my phone and re-paired it. From my first attempt, song info was showing up but it wasn't restarting in bluetooth. Everything works great now.

I don't have answers to your questions, but the thing that really bothers me is this: So a vehicle is out of warranty, but a software update potentially FUBAR's the system. Who covers the cost? With most electronic devices (pc's for instance) you can generally take care of the problem by uninstalling or rolling back. But a $40,000 truck that is completely locked down? This is a problem that is only going to get worse as these things become more advanced.

Good point. Most software companies (MOST) will cover any costs of restoring a device if it was previously working fine and the issue steps from the update/upgrade; but I'm not so sure Ford will do the same.

If I ever have issues - being an IT guy - I'll apply the same logic to them and see what they say.

Is anyone else often finding they are still not consistently resuming BT audio after this update?
