Default Can anyone shed light on a noise?

I know this topic has been beat to death over time in the forum, and I have spent hours looking for answers, and I got nothing.

My issue is a loud noise coming from the front end (possibly front left) that can be best described at sounding like a rock bouncing around in a metal pan or metal box, maybe even a grinding type noise at times. This noise is not present all the time, it's intermittent. It stops when I put it in 4wd I believe. Last time it happened was about 4 days ago, I flipped it to 4wd then back out and it hasn't happened since... but it probably will again.

I have a 2013 Platinum V8 6.2... I am certain it has nothing to do with any mods I've done..

An idea I have gathered from researching is an issue with the vacuum line maybe? but not sure if that is even close.... Any suggestions?

@wtb0002 I'm right there with ya... been dealing with it for a couple months now. 2 mechanics have looked at it and found nothing. Last night they supposedly tested the PSI on all the checks and even smoked the lines for leaks, but said everything was working properly. I'm lost and pretty frustrated at this point. Mine is also intermittent, so its hard to show the mechanic what I'm talking about. Check out my video and let me know if you have the same noise

SchendelTB that's it! The noise I have is almost identical to that yours.. That's not good hearing that no shop could diagnose it. Makes me worried.

Does yours stop when put in 4wd?

I am going to take mine to a few places next week and this Saturday and see if I can't get somewhere.

Yep I drop it into 4x4 then the noise stops. Then it will continue to stay quiet after putting it back into 2-wheel.... Its frustrating and I feel like this is an old subject so we are getting no love on the forum??? Do you think its possible that with the leveling kit installed that the air lines are too short causing too much tension in the line???

That could be it, but my only thing about the level theory is that there are so many trucks with levels, this should be more common and easier to diagnose. I hope the next time it makes the noise I can quickly get it into the shop.

Sounds like an IWE lots of people break them even they put the truck back together after a level because the CV joints are at such a angle it's easy to damage them

Sounds like an exhaust shield with bad spot welds to me.

It's the IWE or the 4x4 hub actuator to put it into 4 wheel drive.

X2

Kinda makes you wish for solid front axles again. 2wd Ride was rougher, but no extra pops bangs and rattles. 4wd was a lot more robust back then. I guess what we have now is "progress" or something.

Does anyone have part numbers or links to the parts? My dad and I are just going to replace it ourselves
