OK So the supercharger had an EO number?

Yes we know about the 1974 cut off. I just want to put gas in and go in a commuter. The ride should be soft and have a bunch of technology in it.

Yes, the supercharger had an E.O.

For most of the performance manufacturers and getting an E.O. it comes down to $$$. I don't know what it costs now but back in the early 2000's it was something like $25K to go through the process of getting one part for one specific motor for that specific vehicle an E.O. Meaning for the 2V V10 mod motor (what my Ex had) it cost Paxton a minimum of $25K to get it approved. the kit cost around $4500 so they would have to sell about 6 kits to break even. Don't know how many they sold but know of at least 10 of the kits were sold so they may have broke even with those after the manufacturing cost and the EPA stuff.

Imagine someone making cold air intakes thought. Say they charge $150 a kit, they have to sell ~200 to break even and that would be one specific motor/vehicle. This is why most small time manufacturers don't even bother with an E.O. and the ones that do sell their kit for $250. Keep in mind the $150 probably would pass all the requirements, it about $$$.

On edit: I had some other things done to the fuel system and a custom tune and I was NEVER questioned about any of it. I did have to show a smog tech where the E.O. was on the supercharger because he couldn't find the metal plate with the serial number and E.O. sitting in plain view.

So people in other states that dont need an EO number should pay less for parts because those parts did not have to go through CA BS?

The 3.5L is the ecoboost, do you mean you have the base 3.7L?

Basically. Buying cats in CA is ridiculously expensive, as are some other parts.

I would say yes and no. Yes, the parts have an E.O. number even if you don't live/buy for CA. They have already paid for the E.O. process so they are going to pass that along I would think. You probably are still paying the high price unless the vendor has a "49 state" version of the part.

And yes, it's really REALLY silly what they have done with the "cat" regulations in CA. I think there are two aftermarket vendors who have gone through the process to get their cats an E.O. otherwise you are stuck buying OEM. I could be wrong on the number of aftermarket manufacturers but that is what was available two years ago for my Excursion. With that as an example, the OEM part was ~$1500 installed and the aftermarket I ended up with was ~$500 installed. Both were fully legal for use in CA so why pay triple the amount for an OEM?
