CAI better than Ford airbox?
Hi folks,
My 2013 5.0l has a stock cold air induction air box with the flat filter.
I'm debating between an entirely new CAI, and the Airaid Jr, which just provides the cleaner, less restrictive intake pipe back to the throttle body. From what I can tell the CAI kit isn't any more "cold air" than my existing airbox.
Do the conical filters that come with a new CAI provide more airflow or other benefits that a drop-in high-flow filter with my existing air box? I'm thinking I could get away with just cleaning up the pipe back to the throttle body.
Thanks,
Tom

As stated in your other thread, forget the air box changes because the stock one is fine. Use that money for a tuner.

Yea, I wouldn't do it. Just a good replacement filter. Maybe an unrestrictive elbow (plastic not metal because of heat soak). Not long after I took delivery of my truck, I wanted to give her some more "Umph". So, I did a little research and went with a Volant system. I have an '11 Lariat with the 6.2. Well, after I put it on, which also involved changing the overflow tank, I thought I would immediately notice a difference. And I did, but in the wrong direction. The Volant airbox is not a true sealed airbox. After about a month, I actually had a loss in MPG and felt no gain in performance. So Off the airbox came, but I left the intake tube in place. It's a nice unrestrictive elbow. I put the stock airbox back in after I did a little modification to allow a bit more air in. My MPG went back up, maybe even better than before. And performance felt like it was at least as before, maybe a bit better. But that is subjective.
