Buying used truck

As for problems with them I've had zero issues with mine, however I've also only put 9,000 miles on it since buying new in 2013. Yea, she's a bit of a garage queen

I anticipate you will be able to get a 'better' deal on a 2011-2014 than an 2015 due to the body-style change. But as time goes on, you will be able to get a similar deal on a 2015 that you can get on a 2014 today.
The only thing to worry about is the decreasing supply of 2014 trucks as time goes on, such that you would need to look at 2015 to get the truck you want.
So, I don't think there is any likely advantage to wait other than the new features on the 2015. If you like that style better, you can wait and get a similar deal later to what you can get on a 2014 today. All depends on which truck you want.

I personally feel that the F150 is a better value than either the Ram or the Chevy 1500's. I also believe it is better in terms of reliability. Sadly I must admit that the Toyota is probably more reliable than any of the others you mentioned. If you do not need/want a full size truck, then I would lean towards the Toy.
My father has an 01 Toy Tacoma that is rusting out from under him, but it runs and over the last 5 years he has only had to replace a muffler and do standard maintenance. Then again they have changed a lot since 01 and the new Tacoma's are closer in size to my F150 than to his. For the price and similar MPG I could not justify going with a Dakota or Tacoma when a full size truck was about the same cost with twice the towing capacity.
Just my $.02

Alright fellas. Going to look at trucks this weekend.
Based on what was said so far:
High mounted stop lamp leaking
SuperCrew® 6.5’ bed (157” wheelbase) take-off shudder
Electric power steering angle sensor failure causing “Service AdvanceTrac®” message
Power sliding rear window breaking when using defroster
Spare tire winch access cover – can’t be removed
There are a few more that you see discussed that are related to the EcoBoost engine.
Blender actuator
I want a 5 foot bed anyways so that takes care of one of the issues. How can I check for the blender actuator issue, the spare tire winch access cover issue and the high mounted stop lamp leaking?
Also, if I buy a truck with less than 3/36k for the bumper to bumper that should pretty much cover any stuff that pops up, right?
Will be looking only at 5l versions. Is the gear ratio displayed anywhere on the truck so I can check that? Would prefer not to go with the 3.31 ratio as apparently that leads to early 2nd gear shift which makes things feel sluggish.
Thanks

Now this is some excellent information. So the 3.31 and 3.55 are either Locking or open and the 3.73 is the only one that comes in open, limited and locking. Is this correct?

Thanks for the kind words. I have access to a boatload of information on options packages and availability. I have data that shows H9 as a 3.55 limited slip available in 13-14. This appears to only apply to XL and STX. So for most trucks out there you are correct that 3.73 has all 3 types.
This is largely due to 3.73 use in Max towing package. But that's for another thread.
Find a truck that has the major options you want and then start verifying the finer details for things like axle etc.
Keep us posted on what you find.

I bought a 4X4 Tacoma Double cab new in 2007. It currently has 172,000 miles with nothing replaced except brakes, serpentine belt, plugs, tires, battery, shocks and 1 universal joint. All that is to be expected with those miles. The only other issue was the HVAC fan went out at about 150,000 miles.
But after 9 years it is just too small. I started looking at the same vehicles several months ago. It came down to Tundra or F-150 Supercrew for me. I got the best deal on a 2014 F-150 about a month ago.
The ride is SOOOOOO much better, it is much quieter and even with the 5.0L V-8 I'm getting EXACTLY the same fuel mileage as the Tacoma. Roughly 16-17ish for my normal driving and 19-20ish hwy.
My Tacoma has some paint peeling and couple of dings that really hurt resale or trade value. I decided it was worth more for me to keep than trade in so I now have both.
The smaller size does have advantages off road and in the mall parking lot. If you want to stay small the Tacoma is the best bet. If comfort and the bigger size are important I'd highly recommend Ford.
