Default Buying a camper shell today - Questions (2011 to 2014)

I'm going to buy a camper shell this evening and I wanted to ask a few questions.

Please don't flog me but is the bed and cab back the same from the 2011 to the 2014?

I own a 2011 and this shell came off of a 2014.

Also, the shell I'm buying was bolted onto the truck that it came off of, its about 2.5 hours away from me and I will need an easy way to get it home. Do you think it would be OK to purchase c clamps to hold it on for the trip home?

Thanks everyone!

Yes. If you have a 5.5' bed and it came off a 5.5' its the same. C clamps will work fine to secure it.

What make of topper?

A lot of toppers are only help on by aluminum c clamps. You just might want to check them about half way to make sure they are still tight.

Yes on both counts, so long as the bed lengths are the same it will fit without trouble.

Also I have never bolted a topper to a truck, but I guess it would work. We have always used 2-3 c-clamps on each rail so the topper is easily removable and still secure when driving.

I called an ARE dealer and asked them. They sent an email in to ARE with the serial number. Turns out it's just a special V Series. Really nothing special lol

Adding a bit more info.

Cheap 3 inch c clamps from Harbor freight work like a charm! Bought 6 of them 3 on each side, checked it half way home it hadn't budged.

I will of course not be leaving them as a permanent solution but they certainly fit the bill.

And for anyone wondering,

I got an excellent deal on a Blue Jean Metallic ARE MaxFit... Only problem it's the wrong color.... Deal was to good to pass up though specially since I've been looking for one since I bought my truck...
