I have a 2012 F150 FX4 5.0 with 3.73 rear end and it has 1100 miles on it and I get about 154mpg/city with the truck bed empty and not towing anything and I am mostly alone in the truck. I mostly drive city during the week some highway on the weekend, not sure what I would get on the highway. Is that about what I should be getting with a new engine or should it be better? If it does get better when would you expect it to get better, after how many miles?

Well driving to work in Atlantic city I drive fifty fifty city highway and get in the ball park of 18.3. I have a 4x4 supercab tow package 3.73 5.0. It gets in the twentys on the highway at 65. Cruisin I use mobile 1 synthetic 5w-20. And I got the 18" rims with 15000 miles. in city driving with winter blend gas and warming the truck up with remote start I get 17.

My 2012 5.0 has almost 3,000 on it. First week or two I was getting 15-16, now after about a month I'm getting 18.8. This is with a good mix of both city and highway.

When breaking in, how low does the fuel economy start?
I test drove a new 5.0 several times (same truck) and it was getting between 6 and 8 mpg, with about 30 miles on the truck. This truck didn't seem to have much oomph. It was pretty closer to my current 4.6 2V F150. I really felt that there was something wrong with this particular truck and didn't buy it. I'd like to hear from you 5.0 owners regarding where the mpg's started and how quickly it got better.

Mine was reading 10mpg when I took it for a test drive. I reset it on my way home after buying it and it averaged 16.3 mpg on the way home. (mostly hwy) The truck has almost 700 miles on it now and I'm getting 16.5 avg.. I drive 6 miles one way to work. Last Sunday I went 30 miles round trip and I was getting 17.3 mpg when I pulled back into my garage.

2012 FX2 5.0L and have 1000 miles on it now. Always use 100% gas, no ethanol, and the most i get is 15.2 mpg. Mostly city driving.

I have reported various results ... just turned 1,300 miles. Fopr the frist time since I've had the truck, I kept my foot out of it and achieved 16.2 (city) driving all over the county today. It was mostly city-type driving. The difference is I was actually going at or below the speed limit the whole time. 1,500 miles is probably a good measure for the break-in period.

I have 900 miles on mine right now. I have about 450 miles (2 weeks worth) on this tank. For this tank, I am averaging 18.6 with most of it rural driving at about 60mph coupled with some town driving. You really have to take everyones experiences with a grain of salt, because the conditions vary widely. You have to expect significant differences when comparing driving in hilly terrain with a lot of stop and go, or much big city driving to driving on flat ground with little stopping.

I can tell you that under the same conditions my old 2000 F150 with a 5.4 and a 3.73 rear end got 15.5-16MPG. The new 5.0 is MUCH more powerful than the old 5.4 and a fair bit more powerful than my current 2010 Chevy work truck with the 5.3. BTW all vehicles were/are 4x4's

When my truck is fully warmed up with the cruise set on about 58 and driving on flat ground, I get about 24 mpg.........but that is not real world, day to day mileage. It is purely optimum conditions.

I don't know what to expect after about 10K miles, but I would guess about a 1mpg increase.

I wish my mileage was like that. For mostly city driving I'm in the 12s. Rarely ever get above 15 unless I go on the highway.

My screw with 5.0 and 3.55 gears is about three months old, and turned 400 miles today. All short runs, and getting about 8 mpg.
