2009 F150 integrated brake controllers
I just installed The Ford integrated brake controller yesterday, and like the others posted here it lit when the ignition came on then went dark.. I have done some research on here and found that the truck computer has to be programed to know that it has been installed...on older models the master cylinder also had to be changed to pick up the brake pressure sensor for the computer...My truck has the max trailer tow package, max payload package, and snow plow ready package, so hopefully it already has the correct master cylinder and only needs to tell the computer that the brake controller has been installed.. it is amazing that the dealers seem to be totally in the dark on this.. I bought mine from a large truck dealer and they appeared to be totally unaware of it also. Hope this helps some of you.

the ford integrated brake controller has to be programed to work with the Ic.If not it will not work.Had mine put in a week ago.If you installed do a system check it will display tbc working ok if its programed.Took my dealer three days to learn how to program it.they didn't want to do it until they new how. I give them credit for that.

2009 F150 Brake controller
The part # on the Box is 9L3Z-2C006-A
I bought it from a local Ford Truck dealer, wife seems to have filed the receipt as ususal never to be seen again (it had been here a whole day and 1/2): but as best as I remember retail was around $38?.00. Depending on dealer discounts you probably can buy it for something less than that.
It is about a 10-15 minute job to install on a regular cab. Just start prying outward at the bottom of the trim peice that the storage bin is located in between the steering column and radio and the clips will snap out, (right side will come out farther allowing the lip on the left side to be slid out from under the trim on that side). 2 screws hold the bin in place and the trailer connector plug is plugged onto the back of the bin. Press tab, remove the plug and plug on to the controller, the rubber plug on the back of the controller will insert into the hole at the back of the controller for stability. Re-install the 2 screws from the bin removal, re-install the trim piece at a slight angle so the lip goes behind the trim on the left side and press the retaining clips back into position... ready to have computer programmed to know it's there..(hopefully-going to do that this morning).
I will come back this evening and let you know if it works....

Ok, took the truck to Gary Crossley Ford, Liberty, Mo. this morning. Their technician put his scanner on the truck and started looking for a way to activate the controller. He couldn't find it under the logical things such as brakes etc.....so he just started scrolling thru the options, "personalities" is apparently one option ??? and there was the brake controller. Clicked on it, 2 seconds later it activated.
I brought it home, hooked up the trailer and took it for a test spin.... Just like the truck brakes, It varies the pressure to the tailer brakes depending on how much pressure you apply to the pedal. I tried raising the gain all the way up to 10 and it never locked the trailer wheels, yet the trailer brakes were working fine. I started @ 4.5 (the point my old controller would lock the trailer wheels when empty) and even on gravel they never locked..This appears to be one nice working controller !!!

I could not agree more. I've used a variety of aftermarket controllers over the years the the factory Ford controller is so smooth its almost as if the trailer isnt even there when stopping. Well worth the upgrade price if you tow anything with trailer brakes!

2009 Integrated brake controller
The dealers in my area will sell you the integrated brake controller for $338. It doesn't do you any good because like ERNIE 50, I bought one and installed it and it still won't work. Installation only took 5 minutes. My local dealer tried hard to find out if any other parts were needed and eventually were told by headquarters that it is impossible to install the integrated brake controller in a 2009 F150 that does not come from the factory with one. I now have an expensive Ford integrated brake controller that will not work and no technical support from Ford. I recommend to others who are considering the purchase of a 2009 F150 for towing to only buy one with the factory installed unit to avoid this headache!
