Finally had a bit of free time today to paint my F-150 emblems... something I've been putting off for a few months. For all the help and great pictures I've gotten from you guys, I thought I'd throw a few pictures up here for anyone who would be curious.

Used the dupli-color shadow instead of a flat black with the idea that if I decided I didn't like them still shiny it would be much easier to go flat then the other way around.

Just let the truck bake in the sun for a bit and actually used dental floss to cut through enough of the emblem that I could gentle pry them off with my fingers.

Overall I definitely wasn't as clean on a few spots as I would have liked to be -- I didn't really notice when I was painting them outside in the sun, but now it's a little more obvious. Probably one of those things that no one will notice but me, but I'm sure you all know how that goes!

Nice looking badges. I'm looking to do this. Did u brush, pour, or spray the paint on? And is there a protective coat on those? Did u have to score the surface to get paint to adhere? I know there's plenty of threads but I like hearing each individuals input on this. Thanks. Nice looking ride!!

Thanks! The dupli-color shadow I used was a spray and had two cans. The first was the "shadow" to darken the chrome and the second was a clear coat. Each coat of the shadow will make it darker - I used 3 coats 20 minutes apart so you could have it be much lighter (maybe darker?) if you desired.

With 20 minutes between coats, an hour between the shadow and the clear coat, 3 coats of clear coat, and a recommended 4 hours afterwards before re-applying to the truck, I'd advise starting early in the day... mine wound up a little rushed.

I didn't sand or use steel wool to rough it up, just cleaned. We'll see how it holds up.

Regardless of how they last -didn't damage the truck which is the important part. So far I definitely like the look.

Actually managed to get the string right in between the emblem and the adhesive tape (vice the adhesive tape and the paint), then gentled pryed the emblem off with my fingers, managing to get the emblems off cleanly with the tape still intact on the side of the truck. Truck was in the hot sun while the emblems were drying so the tape stayed super sticky and seem to be on there just as tight now that I reapplied as they were before I started... we'll see if it lasts.

I had some 3M double sided emblem tape ready to go... it's super thin and real sticky - safe to use on paint. Under 10 bucks at the auto parts store. Appears to be the exact same thing Ford uses... with the exception theirs is cut all nicely to shape.

I picked up the duplicolor Shadow paint just before I deployed. Just never got the chance to do the project. Glad I saw yours as I will end up doing this when I return.
