Default 275/70R18 Tires

I just did a 2.5" leveling kit and 4X4 OEM blocks install on a co-workers 2013 XLT 2WD. He is interested in going with a 275/70R18 on the factory wheels. While searching for tires in that size we have found that the weight of the vary a lot from 45-80lbs.

Are there any P A/T tires in this size or will he just have to suck it up and get a LT?

I go through this with every truck I own, that's my preferred size. I've Never found one that wasn't a 65-80 lb E range 8 or ten ply. Bye bye mpg. Anybody that tells you different, is lying. I've done it atleast 6 times.

Lesser priced too correct? Tread depth? I think I looked at those and thought they were thin. Tread varies 11/32-17.5/32 on that sized tire. That's a years worth of rubber for me.

Honestly the mpg hit is hit or miss with my LT275/70/18 Duratracs. There are still are still days I'll get 18-19mpg on the hwy and then other days I'll get 15-17. City never really changed, still 11-14mpg. Truck is tuned though whether that helps or not.

I found the same thing, so I ended up dropping back to a 275/65R18 so I could get a load range C which kept the weight down, but also got the deeper tread that comes with a LT tire. Cooper Discoverer AT3 is what I'm running. They do "look" bigger than the stock goodyears if that is any help.

Unfortunately there is no P-Metric options for a 275/70R18. He would basically have to stay stock size to keep the weight down.

Toyo Open Country AT2 - 53lbs
Goodyear Duratrac - 55lbs
BF Goodrich AT TKO - 57lbs

There are 3 of the most popular all terrains there are in the 275/70/18. I think all 3 are a pretty reasonable weight. I personally have never had a problem with the LT, 10ply, load range E tire. I have the BF TKO's and I get about 18mpg overall (on a leveled 4x4)

I've ran all of the more popular tire$, on a half ton truck I've never lost less than 2 mpg. Sometimes three. I keep doing it, because it looks good, but it sure would be nice if we had lighter options.

if you tow or haul, you want e-ply

surprising that these trucks don't come with a C ply minimum
