F150 Owner Since 1999..
its probably going to cost just as much to make that than to just buy one. they have some for like $130 just looking briefly. might get a deal on cyber monday.
by time you get a metal bar, get a hinge assy welded to it, shave the top of your box so it can swing over your bed box etc., you will probably be close to $100 anyways.
I would sell the one you have for whatever you can get and buy one

Imma keep looking for a bit longer, and if nothing, maybe I'll see one on Dec 25.

Just wanted to say that the engine cover paint job looks great! I am planning to do the same thing except I'm thinking about doing the "3.5L V6" in a different color. Maybe Black or something. Nice job.

Thank Rhyder, you could be right. It wouldn't be the first time my cheap"****" efforts end up either not saving much or costing a lot of time lol - disappointedly, here in Canada, that slick little plastic box is between $250-350 on Amazon .ca

Just wanted to say thanks for all the positive feedback on the engine cover paint job! But I can't take full credit, I got the idea from another member from way back in this thread, post 2656 on page 266 By STFDLT24, gotta give credit where its due

You bet, basically I'm trying to convert my current Porkchop style box from stationary to swing out like the one pictured below ("Undercover"). My homeade one is fairly big compared to the plastic one. Goal: craft some sort of swing out assembly, with release handle at rear of box, so access is easy. Current box is snug under rail but with the tonneau Backflip, there's even less room to open the lid (lid opens full length with hinges on back (or passenger) side.
Maybe you could also fab up some kind of lock at the hinge point to keep it from swinging. A Master lock or a lynch pin cut into the hinge?

Looks great. Did you paint it yourself? If so what kind of paint did you use?
