I have a plastic drop in bed liner and I don't like it rubbing off the paint on the rails. so my thought is keep it from moving with a heavy chunk of rubber. TSC rubber 3/4 in 4'X6' 100lb mat should do it and at $40.00 its a win. some assembly and disassembly required.

Did this except I didn't fill in the other parts. Truck rides much smoother too!

I like having the durability of the plastic and the nonskid of rubber so it works. Thanks

Ok so this is my last mod for a while. see how everything runs for a bit.
With a naturally aspirated motor if you have that much crank case pressure to require a catch can I would be trying to get ford to warranty that motor

Hahahaha good catch! I just assumed that it was an ecoboost. With that being said, it is stupid to put a catch can on an N/A motor unless you have really bad blow by meaning that your valve seals are shot, or your rings are fried. I had this problem with my honda civic that had over 300K on it. Put a similar catch can on, and it did nothing but cause problems. Because of the condensation in the winter, it would freeze and make it impossible to drain it. Needless to say, I just went back to stock and let it dump the stuff back into the intake.

I guess you guys only understand aspects of you own engines. Other non turbo powered engines can benefit from cleaner air intake.

a little research would show that the 2013 5.0 is not a naturally aspirated engine its a direct inject engine with a higher compression than your ego boost

Even tough it is direct injected it is still naturally aspirated. No boost or other power adder. The catch can has nothing to do with cleaner air intake. All it is doing is catching crank case fumes and residue.

Direct injection is still naturally aspirated unless there is a turbo charger or supercharger on the motor, then it becomes forced induction. Besides the 5.0L is not a direct injection motor. Better tune up your wikipedia skills to understand the aspects of your own engine.

Please don't take offense to this, but you are way off.

Oil catch cans are designed for very high performance engines and forced induction engines (turbo and supercharger). The reason for this is because these engines produce a lot higher of a rate or crankcase pressure that a normal pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) valve cannot handle.

Direct injection and compression have nothing to do with being naturally aspirated. N/A means that there is nothing forcing air into the intake witch means that the intake has a vacuum (sucking air in) rather than boost (pushing air in). Direct injection means that the fuel is directly injected into each cylinder combustion chamber rather than having the fuel atomize in the intake.

with that being said, a *very* high compression motor (like 14:1 which the 5.0 is not) can benefit from a catch can because the crankcase produces more pressure.

in our situation, the little bit of oil that does go into the intake will get atomized enough and burn up in the combustion chamber. the other thing is that oil is not the only thing that gets mixed in your intake, there is also um burnt fuel and condensation that gets recycled into the motor.

Now, it is true that this can slightly dirty the intake, but nothing major enough to cause a situation where your motor will run badly or get worse gas mileage. If this were the case, don't you think that manufacturers would design a system that works better?

Like I said in my last post, if you have enough pressure in your pcv system that you are coming up with that much crap, that means that you have blow by created by worn piston rings, or bad valve seals.

The reason that forced induction motors are beneficial from a catch can is because rather than having the air sucked into the motor like an NA motor, it is forced in meaning that some of that pressure leaks past your rings and valve seals creating more crankcase pressure. this is normal to see in forced induction motor because the pcv system cannot keep up especially when the motor is not stock or boost is increased.

This.

Only high HP boosted and N/A motors will benefit at all.

Having said that it won't hurt anything having one but don't expect much out of it.

I do apologies for my snap response. not sure what I was thinking we were talking about.

With that said after reading the linked forum page, Seeing how coated the tube was between the vent and PCV I asked the local dealer who has been so useless so far, and They told me that oil gets by. There is nothing to do about it unless there is a problem such as stalling. so like others I intend to take care of it my self.

Note: I still maintain the EGO boost comment. I thought it was funny. 5.0 FOREVER!
