Question Best Cold Air Intake for 5.0?

Im researching what would be the best Cold Air Intake for my 2012 5.0 and keep coming up with K&N as the best band for the buck. What CIA setup are you guys running and what are you impressions?

Howdy.

You already have the 'best' CAI - yer Stock one. it flows far more than yer Stock engine can use (and keeps the IAT's in check).

Aftermarket fer appearance ('bling') and some noise. There is NO perf advantage.

BTW - K&N is crap. Marketing BS.

You have a MAF - beware yer MAF transfer function accuracy if yer chosen aftermarket CAI relocates the MAF.

This particular vampire was staked - long ago. Only fellers who are card-carrying members of the Flat Earth Society buy CAI's fer perf these days.

Flame on. lol

I almost went with the Roush because of the great looks and high quality, but in the end I went with the K&N because I have owned them in the past and they always worked as promised. I have it on my 2014 5.0 and I noticed the power difference right away. K&N also encloses a written HP guaranty along with their dyno chart. For the 5.0 peak gain is 12Hp, but the torque and HP show gains across the RPM range. The sound is great as well. Opening up the exhaust some does wonders for these motors and goes hand in hand with the cold air intake. Hope this helps.

I had an Airaid intake like the one I attached below. Sounded great and added a lot of depth when accelerating hard. Not much of a power difference

Shortly after I bought my 2014 5.0, I installed an Airaid CAI with the SynthaMax dry filter.

At the same time, I installed the Borla ATAK cat-back exhaust and a tune from 5-Star Custom Tunes.

It feels like it helps performance, but without dyno-testing before and afterwards, I can not prove it.

The only way I could see a "CAI" somewhat work is if you have a hood with a functioning hood scoop that actually seals up around the filter shield otherwise stock is the best you're going to get. If you are just after sound and looks then buy whatever floats your boat. These aftermarket filters are only slightly better than running no filter at all. More flow equals less filtering equals more dust/dirt being sucked into your engine.

Howdy.

Just FYI.

All susbstantive gains were from the custom tuning. Stage3 Motorsports even states as much:

Intake:

Exhaust ( long thread - jump to posts 47 & 48 ):

It should be noted that MPT gets 47hp/47tq gains @ the wheels on tuning only on a 5.0...
