Edge Programmer Released
I have been reading the forums and have decided Edge is the best, also a coworker steered me that way. So I have been waiting for one to come out. I called Edge today and got a computer nerd sounding guy, not a motorhead type. He wasn't the most informative. But he did say that they have unofficially released the Touch Screen one, CTS, for the new F-150s. It's not on the website yet but you can buy it.
Apparently these programmers come with all the vehicles programs on them, so they sense the serial number and know that it is a 2010 F-150 and start running that program. Does that sound right? So I could sell this thing to a guy with an 05 Chev or something if I didn't like it? Just an example.
I like the CTS because it's fancy and I like toys. It has the programmer, gauge display, reads codes, etc. I like the gauge display. I think most people that have Edge that I have read about have been happy with it. Hypertech and superchips seem ok, but not as fancy.
I read that these units are meant for stock trucks, as in not to be combined with intake, exhaust, etc. Mine is stock now, but in the future I may add exhaust. Is this a problem?
Also, these units don't say that it is for 87 octane or anything. I would like all my tunes to be 87 octane, is that what it is or am I going to have pinging?
I am leery about voiding the warranty... A guy pays a lot of money to have a new truck and to have a warranty.
I know a lot of ppl are going to say Gryphon, VMP, etc. But to me, Edge is a bigger company, good product out of the box, etc. The smaller companies may give me a custom programmer but because they are smaller, it will take longer to deal with them, and I am not sure if it is worth paying the premium for them. Plus I think Edge likely doesn't push the truck over the top to make power so as to not ruin them. These other companies might. I would be happy with 35 HP and have a lasting truck rathing than trying to squeeze 45 HP out of it and ruining it. I just want to be sure that Edge will work with 87 octane and will work with exhaust. I also don't want to be the guinea pig on the new programmer. It would be nice to hear from someone else that has it on their new F-150 to see how they managed to work with the learning transmission and whatnot, and make sure it does what it is supposed to do, add power. I want to feel the difference for 600 bucks.
Opinions?
This guy returned his VMP:

I have a max energy and it made a noticeable difference....I wanted the Edge, but got tired of waiting so I figured I'd try out the Hypertech in the meantime. I may still pick up an Edge to play with it when they are offically released, but right now the Hypertech is working fine for me.

X2 I have enjoyed my Hypertech for 18 months now while waiting on the Edge with Gryphon tunes on it.

So what type of improvements can I expect to see with the Hypertech, Superchips or the Edge? I know they add horsepower and have tow settings. Some threads I have read explain that guys have increased MPG's. Not read much of anything about the Hypertech yet but would like to hear what it can do. I mostly do normal driving, some but not much towing. Added new tires recently but only went up to a 275/65. There doesn't seem to be much of an issue; speedo is just barely off. Would love some more horses and imporved mileage, even if it is by 1 or 2 mpg's. Thanks.

I think the 04-08 Superchips will extend into the 09-10 models with a free update. If you find a used one in the $150 range you could have a cheap way out. Of course it doesn't have the gauge display capabilities of the edge.

Way better throttle response was the biggest thing I noticed from the hypertech. THe truck was a dog after the lift, which is the reason I was looking for a tuner in the firstplace.....I also may have gained a mpg or two, but havent really been watching it.
The throttle response alone was worth it for me...

December 2009 TOTM!
Your saying how Gryphon or "Powerhungryperformance" is a smaller company and you feel Edge is bigger... it's the SAME PROGRAMMER! It was just designed for Bill at PHP so that he can custimize a custom tune for YOUR vehical with YOUR modifcations such as CAI, EXHAUST, city/highway driving, elevation... he custimizes it to YOUR truck and YOUR surroundings... I have the Gryphon on my truck even though it's an 03'... It runs great and much quicker than other trucks my year with tuners... Gryphon has the firmware that allows Bill to put in his customized tunes...
I will say this, my next vehical WILL have a Gryphon custom tuned by Bill. And I hope it's a diesel so he can tune it! Period.
