Bakflip bike rack project

Permanent. Thus the reason for the powder coat and painted hardware, etc. The fork mounts will stay there for good. I'll take the skewers and thru-axle adapter out until needed. The two fork mounts should pretty much fade away and be almost un-noticeable when not in use. I'm currently reading up and researching the **** outta how to properly drill through fiberglass skins without chipping, etc. I've gained some interesting knowledge. Most people suggest running the bits in reverse...pilot point bits that is.

If the mounts are moved as close to the cab as possible then it shouldn't interfere with the cover in the fully folded position. The Rocky Mounts that I chose are a little taller than some others; i.e. the Yakima Blockhead, which is pretty low profile and actually curves back a little. So yes, there is room.

Nice work, we did similar setup a couple of years ago using a modified thule truck bed rack bolted on top of the front of the bakflip cover...
Only suggestion I have is that dirty bike wheels will wear off the paint on the bakflip, some anti-skid tape will keep it from getting damaged.

How do you keep the rear bike wheel from swinging around?

This is how I had it on my old truck but my new one has a tonneau cover and I don't plan on buying another toolbox. Couldn't you just drill into the tonneau cover without making a bracket, or are you just being safe with a stronger support for the bike mounts.
