Another cool thing is I was going to add a switch in the cab of the truck...
Now, no need too....everything looks stock and all you have to do is hit the unlock inside 3 times.
Works from the key fob, inside unlock pad, and the outside keypad.
This was exactly what i was looking for because it utilizing Fords stuff.

Finally got some time to get these done... Pretty happy with results.
First is the auto opening tailgate...

Now I'm ready for my Line-X.

I hope there is enough torque to overcome the additional friction from a tonneau cover.

Also, what did you mount the solenoid to? Any pics?

No, I added the regular unlock/lock actuator to unlock it.
I will have to take some pics... I was busy trying to finish before we had to go somewhere, so no pictures. Sorry.
The solenoid for opening the tailgate has a cable for pulling the lever, so mounting position isn't that important... Just 90 degrees from the lever.

Hey Zapufast, might be a dumb question, but how does using the tailgate handle manually affect the release? is it tough to pull open the handle and is it hard on that trunk release? Id imagine there would still be times id just want to walk up and open it manually

If you get the led strips, did you cut them are or run it continuous around both sides...? If you cut it to length, can you re-wire so that I only need to buy one strip?

Thanks for the quick response Zap, also I was wondering what kind of relay set up you had installed and if a key from a ford escape could be programmed (It has all the truck functions PLUS endgate)

Not sure if your truck would have the receiving module for that. I used a TR-7 that counts the number of unlocks to initiate the tailgate.
