To anyone thinking of putting pre-09 wheels on your 2009/2010 F150
I just found out the hard way that they ARE NOT an exact fit (on the front). Even though the bolt pattern is the same, pre-09 had smaller front brakes, and the offset on the new (09-10) wheels is a little greater to accomodate this!
I put some 05 FX4 wheels with new Blizzak DM-V1's on for winter, went to back out of the garage, and thought I had left my e-brake on.... WAIT A MINUTE... the e-brake is the back wheels, not the front! When tightening the front lug nuts, it pulls the wheel into the calipers, and applies pressure to the rotor - dragging the brakes.
So... off to the local PartsStop for a set of 1/4 inch spacers. That was all it took, and now it is fine. No dragging, but that 1/4 inch the wheels stick out now, I get slush and water off the front tires down the side of the truck more - guess I may have to get the flares after all!

Any wheel from the 04-08 can go on the 09 as far as I know EXCEPT FX4 18"s there is to much metal on the inside near the lugs and it rubs on the caliper bracket.
They don't fit. To put them on, you will need about a 1/4'' spacer on the front.
These are the rim in question, 2005 FX4 18''

That's interesting. I did the same thing--bought a used a set of steel 17s to mount snow tires on my '09 XLT with factory 18s. I even went so far as to pull the front wheel off and slip the used rim on to check for clearance around the caliper before I bought 'em. Looked like plenty of room...
I can't quite figure out why tightening the lugs would cause an issue. A larger offset shouldn't create a problem in terms of brake/caliper clearance, but could cause the tire to run further out of the wheel opening with subsequent spray issues. So, are you saying that the rubbing/binding doesn't occur until after you've torqued the lugs down to specs? Is this likely to be a problem for both 2x4 and 4x4 models?
I guess I gotta go down to the garage and bolt 'em up tight to check, now. Won't believe it until I see it...

those are the EXACT wheels! Not sure about any others - but tightening the lugs down is what caused it - and sure enough...your's were machined by driving them a bit too! THe spacer fixed the problem on mine.

Every other wheel I know of SHOULD fit. I have a set of 17" FX4 rims that I have tested and can say there is clearance. The 18"FX4 wheel just has to much material on it.
