What truck cap have you had experience with? Leer? Jason? Lakeland? A.R.E.?
A brand I didn't mention?? Appreciate your feedback!

I put a Leer 100XL on to my 2008 Ranger when I bought and had it all the way up until October when I traded the truck in for my '13 Scab. It cost about $1600 when I bought it and I had zero problems with it the entire time. It never leaked and the color / finish never degraded in spite of the fact that I never washed or waxed it.
The only knock against this particular model for me was the lack of a gutter / rain channel around the back window/door to prevent drips into the bed of the truck when the door was open. Over time, I sure wish I had this. In Leer's current line-up, this feature is found only in their 100XQ model. By comparison, Snug Top has I think 3 or 4 models at different price points WITH the rain channel.
After buying my F150, I looked into a new cap and the 100XL was about $2000 and the 100XQ would have been $2400. In the end, I decided to get the Leer 700 tonneau instead. Frankly, it was cheaper ($1400) and I had a vandalism incident with my Ranger's cap in the weeks before I got rid of it which swayed my decision. Some jackass busted out the rear window / door for the hell of it and it cost me $400 to replace it. At least with a tonneau I should avoid crap like that.
Good luck!
Steve

One word: SnugTop.
I had a SnugTop on my first Ranger with -0- issues (ever)
I Put an XL Leer on my newer Ranger (then Leer had to replace the it because of there being too many problems to fix). I pushed for them to replace it with an XQ. They did. Nothing but problems with it as well. And forget "customer service": almost non-existent. My dealer spent a lot of time dealing with this unit.
So, for my F150, I got a SnugTop. Love it Love it Love it! No leaks, fits great. Better fit-n-finish than Leer in so many ways. I will always buy SnugTop from now on.
And no, I don't have any affiliation w/SnugTop.

I have a ARE Z series cap on mine. it's pretty much the same as the Leer XL series frameless windows and what not. I went with a cap over a tonneau because I figure it will be more practical

I love my Leer and only bought it because it popped up on Criagslist used for cheap. But, I had great luck with the Snug Top on my last F250. I tend to agree the Snug Top does seem to stay a bit drier in pouring wet conditions but is definitely an older style and does not look as sharp IMO. The door latches and hardware are better on the Leer.
The frameless windows look better, but don't provide as good a water tight seal as the older style framed windows which they say also provide better airflow for animals. I have a Bedrug and Led lights and the roof cargo basket for mine which help a lot for duck hunting, camping etc...

Thanks all! And for your photos Blastmaster. I needed a USERS point of view, not just a salesman's BS.

on a side note- i ordered this one w/o the optional roof rails and wish i hadn't.. those long rails make a nice place to grab onto when pulling yourself up on the rear tires to wash/dry the roof (now i use a small step ladder).
hated my ARE.. went through 2 in 18 months and numerous parts (struts, trim pieces etc.) and it leaked something awful at the top of the back window!

I have a Raider Cobra. Raider is a sister company to Leer and the Cobra is similar to the 180 model.
I am very happy with my cap, it has removable roof racks, interior lights, and 12v power block.
The only thing I would have changed is to get the pet screen option. It didn't take long for my dogs to push through the factory screen.

I have the basic (bottom of the line fiberglass) Leer. Bought it new and it's color matched at the factory. I think it was about $1000. The color is perfect. Zero issues. I have not noticed any leaking and I'm not sure where anyone would have any leaking. The only place that I think it could leak would be if it wasn't sealed properly against the bed, which would be an install issue and not a topper issue.
