Default Tips for best acceleration?

Hey Guys, I've been reading through alot of threads and have not been able to find a really good answer. Anyways, for a 0-60run, what is the best way to get the quickest acceleration?

I've heard many theorys as to turn Tow/Haul mode on, Traction Control off, Rear Diff locked in, etc... Does any of this actually improve performance? What do you do?

Any tips anyone can provide?

Thanks much!

  • tow/haul -ON-
  • Traction Control and AdvanceTrak -OFF-
  • ELD -LOCKED- (if available)
  • transmission in [ D ]
  • ALL accessories -OFF-

    Stage deep. Leave hard.

Cool, thanks!! So what does the Tow/Haul do differently that helps increase performance? Also, does the rear diff only stay locked in up to a certain speed? I notice when I use it it will deactivate shortly after I accelerate, wasn't sure if it's suppose to do that?

Jeff_H2O ... So what does the Tow/Haul do differently that helps increase performance?
Excerpted from the owner's manual ...
Tow/haul delays upshifts to reduce frequency of transmission shifting. Tow/haul also provides engine braking in all forward gears when the transmission is in the D (Drive). ...
Also, does the rear diff only stay locked in up to a certain speed?
Excerpted from the owner's manual ...
Note: The ELD is designed for off-road use only and is not intended for use on dry pavement. Using the ELD on dry pavement will result in increased tire wear, noise and vibration.
COMMENT: In other words - Use at your own risk.

• The ELD will not engage if the accelerator pedal is pressed beyond 50% during an engagement attempt.
COMMENT: This means that it should be engaged BEFORE you attempt to take-off on a 0-60 run.

• In 4x2, 4x4 Auto, and 4x4 High modes, the ELD will automatically disengage at speeds above 25 mph (41 km/h) and will automatically reengage at speeds below 20 mph (32 km/h).

• In 4L (4X4 low), the ELD will automatically disengage at speeds above 62 mph (100 km/h) and will automatically reengage at speeds below 56 mph (90 km/h).
I notice when I use it it will deactivate shortly after I accelerate, wasn't sure if it's suppose to do that?
As noted above ... WAD (Working As Designed).

Wow, thanks for the detailed explanation. For the ELD, it all makes sense now because I have used it on dry payment and while making a turn I could feel the tires shudder and even made a rubbing sound on the payment. So maybe I shouldn't be using that??

Yes. You do not want to do that. Turning is hard on a locked diff. Dirt allows slipping. Pavement does not and you stress components. I would only use in straight line 0-60 run on pavement. Offroad, enjoy as needed.

You can't tow a boat with a Mustang. Truck is plenty fast, just want to know what method makes the most of it.
