my .02... I have a 13 king ranch with the sony system, my buddy has a '10 platinum. So far as we can tell they have identical sound system. Both of us are original owners, so no chance of mods we aren't aware of. In a side by side comparison, his blows mine away. his volume goes far far above and beyond mine. I told the dealer after I bought my truck that there seemed to be a problem with my stereo because it wouldn't get as loud as I expected it should, and they told me I was crazy... so may be that's the case.

Default Anyone Else Not Happy With the Sony Sound System?

I would love, a little more volume and a separate gain for the sub.
The only positive is at full volume, it's still clean.
I will be going the the way of the kicker upgrade, pretty soon.

Maybe his setting is Off or set to 1 and increasing might help his situation and definitely worth checking out.

I agree with the OP. My 2013 RAM 1500 Longhorn had an Alpine system and had a more superior sound quality than the Sony in my 2014 Limited. Some of it has to do with the speakers. I'm not a sound engineer but when you amplify music, the only thing left to do is improve the stereo separation and tone quality.

A) My SCV is already bumped up all the way.
B) I was having to use max volume, so cranking up SCV wouldn't do anything because the volume is already maxxed (as far as i know).

Anyway, i guess i should update:

I've since added an Audiocontrol LC7i line output converter, a 1200 watt amp, and 4 Kicker speakers in the front door. Volume is no longer an issue (although a ****ty installation job that I'm still trying to get corrected is lol). I have plenty of volume, better mid and especially better bass. However, I'm about to upgrade again. I'm going to replace the rear door speakers, and add my 12" Alpine Type-R sub. I'll be yanking the factory Sony sub and placing the Alpine in it's location. I will have to keep the passenger side rear seat folded up (this is a full size sub in a ported box from my Mustang lol), but i rarely seat 5 anyway. Plus, they could just move it out, fold the seat down, and someone's legs will have to straddle it lol. Not my problem though, I'll be up in the drivers seat so I'll be comfortable

I'll update with pictures when it's all done

i felt the exact same way, i thought it sounded good, but wanted more bass

i put in 2 10" audiomobile subs that fit completely under my back seat
a clarion 900 watt amp behind my back seat
and a gain **** for the subs up front,

night and day diff- the speakers are loud n clear and i can adjust the bass - it hits hard
spent about 800 $ including install

a friend with the same truck went with JL W1's and a 650 watt amp, hits pretty damn good too for a little less $

I'm definitely surprised by the limited amount of max volume. After 20 years, my hearing hasn't diminished, so it's not that. I have a '14 with the Sony system. I went to turn it up and it was already at max. The sound quality is really good, I just wish it had a few more db's. I'm hesitant to turn up the phone Bluetooth voume output because past 80%, roughly, it introduces distortion.

Please accept my apologies for the thread revive. I linked in from a google search and didn't pay attention. I don't understand...I mean I've never seen a forum where there was no delete option, or I'd totally delete. I'm reporting my post, maybe mods will delete in time.

What phone is doing that? Generally, you should have your phone at max volume when using BT, then adjust with the system. Most phones should be at line level with it at max volume. If it is really the cause of distortion (as opposed to the truck system), that is strange.

I do hate weak attempts at a decent all around stereo. Like Spiky said; turn the BT all the way up. Turn the bass down and set the variable speed volume to 6 not 7.

It's a let down and frustrating having all those speakers and get nothing in return.

The cure is door speakers that make the most out of the factory unit (Infinity) and add a new sub. Kicker made/makes one that's custom. Last I heard, the subwoofer had tripled in price..

That made it what it should've been in the first place.
