Tried 2 tanks of that, you will lose roughly 25% in MPG, takes a simple calculation to determine that it doesn't pay off unless its about $1 less than regular which it never is.

The thought that gas stations only get premium and regular is not factual. At least not across the board. I fill up with mid grade only because it is ethanol free, as is the premium. Regular contains 10% ethanol. I get significantly better gas mileage using ethanol free.

The mid grade where I live is indeed 5% ethanol.

Significant? Sorry, I am just not seeing that (read my post from earlier). What is significant to you?

You all are lucky, in Houston and Dallas, all three flavors contain 10% ethanol.

I have run mid grade 88 since I bought the truck because we don't get 87 and prem is only 90.. No issues, performs great, runs great, and is still silky smooth. I do buy gas from the same station at the same pump, usually early morning on Mondays prior to a week of commuting.. Always fill up at a half tank too. I tried a 1/4 tank of 86 just for grins since dealers around here claim to run it no problem. I noticed a fair decrease in performance and sluggishness from the 88.

Lifetime mileage with the mid-grade 88 is 18. My current tank average for this week is 19.3. Steadily rising

I run Mid-Grade. Around here we get real crappy gas (My old SAABs would be a pain to start every so often because of the putrid gas we get), and on top of that it's 10% ethanol. I started with regular when I bought it, and switched when I tuned it (Only use an 87 tune) and I feel a difference. A co-worker used to have a flex fuel Taurus and said it would ping on 87, but not on mid(89), so it may be due to the Flex Fuel tuning. Or it may be hocus pocus for all I care.

I think my truck runs better because of it, like going up hills and when I hammer on it. Anyway, my truck, my money, my choice . I agree with the previous poster, run 3 or so tanks through it and see if you notice anything.

All grades of fuel contain up to 10% ethanol unless stated at the pump. Running higher octane fuel in a engine that wasn't designed for it will not run more efficiently.

All 3 grades around me contain "up to" 10% ethanol as stated on the pump.
