What can we tow?
We recently picked up a 2009 F-150 FX4. We're planning on towing a camper and are wondering what our towing limits are. I do know that the rear end has 3.73 gears.
Based on what we can find, it either 9700lbs or 11,000lbs, but the dealer can't tell us if we have the "towmax" package.
Is there anything obvious that would let us know if we have the upgraded towing package?
Also, we're planning on towing using the bumper hitch, but what are your thoughts on fifth wheels and goosenecks? I don't want to waste the truck bed by filling it with a fifth wheel.

Does it have big tow mirrors with 2 lenses on each or the smaller mirrors? Big mirrors means max tow package. Unless somebody swapped out the smaller mirrors for the big ones. Which does sometimes happen.

No big mirrors...
Didn't think we had the package, but nobody at the dealership could tell me.
Now we just need to decide on installing a gooseneck or using the bumper to hook the trailer up.

Didn't know about the option until after we had the truck. Either way, I'm happy!
Definately nicer than the Escrape that we traded in for it!

Bye F150, hello F250
5th wheel hitches take a lot more weight than gooseneck *****. But, the F150 is not the truck for a 5th wheel. Read this: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/5th-wh...m-doing-52823/

NO NO NO- the tow mirrors does NOT mean Max Tow. They are exclusive options. I have MAX and standard mirrors.
To check what you have, call Ford, give them the VIN and they will tell you. You can also check this site- replace <VIN> with your VIN and see your window sticker AND all options. http://services.forddirect.fordvehic....pdf?vin=<VIN>
Regarding towing, read this please: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/towing...93/#post575930
