Default Anti-theft devices?

Anyone knowledgeable on the subject? I can't find anyplace that objectively reviews them. Guy here is talking about putting in the Viper system. Are steering wheel locks worth the hassle as a little deterrent?

This is one of the worst cities for auto theft.

Anything is better than nothing as far as deterrents. Steering wheel locks are effective but if the thief is determined and prepared, they are easy to defeat. Then again, if the thief is determined enough and prepared, nothing will stop them.

IMO what makes a good alarm is the installer, not the alarm manufacturer.

Default deterrents

I always put a hidden small flip switch on my trucks ran with the factory harness and to the fuse box and to the fuel pump fuse wiring that way theres no way it will start unless they find the switch which is hidden very well. never had truck stolen yet unless they get a wrecker.

you should put together a simple "how-to" install a kill switch thread.

Doesn’t the 09’s come with a factory alarm system? Grant it, it is from the factory so it probably isn’t anything to brag about. I had planned to install a Viper alarm and auto start system, which I priced around $300-$400.

Default I'm getting a Compustar alarm tomorrow

I was looking at the Compustar P2W900FM-AS or the Viper 5901.
Both seemed to get good reviews, but I was able to get a better installed price on the Compustar, plus it had a few more features, and some of the things that were available as add-ons for the Viper were included in the Compustar package (Glass breakage sensors).

That's the one I have in my truck (2006 SCREW) and I'd easily recommend it to anyone out there. Very easy to adjust the sensitivity and the dual shock sensor is great. I know for a fact it has saved me at least one break-in.
