Default always-on autodim instrument panel?

I just bought a new 2010 F150 5 days ago (XLT SuperCrew 4x4, dark blue, chrome package etc.) It's great, I love my 2002 f150, but this is better. The instrument panel lights are acting kind of wierd to me and I wanted to check to see if this is normal. In headlamp parking, on, or auto modes, the instrument panel lights auto-dim based on the light sensor on the dash. I thought this shouldn't happen in the "parking" or "on" modes? Makes the panel kind of hard to see in shadows. Is this normal? Thanks a lot!

Yeah mine does that to. I hate it. If I turn the headlights on, I want the instrument panel lights on too...I don't care how dark it is out side they should come on.

Mine acts the same way. Its like they are on a switch completely separate of the headlamps and you can't override it.

Mine was doing this also. I have tinted windows and I wanted them to come on sooner than they were. I put some black electrical tape over the sensor on the dash. Problem Gone!

Maybe I am off here, but there is multiple positions to the panel light switch right? You can rotate it up and adjust the brightness.

Thanks, the tape will work for me since I don't plan to use the autolamp setting. I don't think it was designed for highways shaded by big doug firs (neither was sirius radio). Ceadmin, the problem is the panel goes dark when light hits the sensor on the dash no matter how bright I have it set to with the dial. Well, I tested it in the garage with a flashlight on the light sensor, and it actually just goes very very dim. Since my adjustable pedals seem to be wired backwards (up arrow makes them go down), I thought maybe the same person wired my headlights .

try popping sensor out, light mist or two of paint same as dash, reinstall,
looks factory, works great
remember, you can add paint, but hard to remove
