Aluminum frame. Opinions on this...

What do you all think? 700 pounds lighter! Better fuel economy. I like ford not being afraid to step up their game. Will it be as strong?

Keepin' the lights on!
Plus no rust! Hell, you could just polish the whole truck. Ford will have to work on getting them not to crack. I wonder how that would effect mounting a tool box or headache rack to the bed?

Bed rails. So it shouldnt effect it at all. That if you have bare bed rails. But most trucks come with covered bed rails.

Ford may be making F-150 out of Aluminum

So what do you guys think, is modern aluminum capable of being as tough as steel?
I don't know how much is going to be aluminum, but I would imagine the frame wouldn't be (that just seems silly)... but the rest of it?

Seems it is most of the body that will be aluminum instead of steel. They aren't changing the frame or axles or anything. That being said, all-aluminum block motors have been around for a while and are used in pretty intense places.
USA Today is reporting: After more than 100 years using steel, Ford Motor Co. plans to make its Ford F-150 pickup truck with a largely aluminum body.
Ford is hoping the switch to the lighter metal will cut the weight of its F-150 truck by about 15 percent and help it meet tougher federal fuel-economy targets. But it comes with a host of manufacturing obstacles and may be hard to convince loyal buyers that aluminum is as tough as steel.

The reason aluminum blocks/heads are used is because of better heat transfer and weight reduction.
