Oh, I see, makes sense now. Thanks for that, freddyttt. My phone, which is a Galaxy S5, is paired through the Alpine itself for Call audio (Use for phone audio) and Media audio (Use for media audio). Currently, when I press the phone button on the steering wheel, the screen on the head unit states SYNC at the top and asks if I want to connect a phone. I just exit out of it. Like I said though, I don't even use Sync anymore.

Instead, if I want to use voice commands, I just hold down the phone button for 3 seconds that is just to the left of the NAV button of the Alpine. I can then use voice commands to make calls, play tracks, etc. Yes, it will also read text messages as you asked.

In order for this to work successfully, you have to have Car Mode on your device enabled and connected as well, which, it should recognize the head unit via the bluetooth connection. Once this is set successfully, you should be good to go. Hope this helped out a bit!!

LOL, you're welcome. Glad to hear that worked for you. No, I have not tested it with other car modes from the market. Not sure if I really want to as it is working for me.

the ultimate car dock has better spech recognition reads out text messages, places calls and also sends text and puts all your music choices at your finger tips-.

Thanks and sorry about that PM .... it really works great for hands-free text which seemed to missing with-out using sync. the speech portion works great.

also this AM I moved my USB over and plugged in my iPod which works awesome. now I get album art all my playlists along with quick search. I'm wondering if I can play movies and flash pics on screen using the Ipod. anyhow it may be time to dump XM ....

No worries about the PM...just wanted to make sure it got to the correct person. Yeah, play around with the iPod and see what you can make out of it. That would be cool if you can get it to work. I sold my iPod years ago because I really didn't use it much.

I got rid of satellite a while back, thought about going back to it, but, decided against it for now.

Yes you play video from a ipod, this is where that downloadable Manual comes knto play!

Most HUs require extra needed cables, for it to work for video.

Figured I'd dig this one up instead of starting a new one. For the guys that got these well below the retail price of $3000, where did you find it for that price? I really want one but I can't find anyone to budge off of the ~$3000 price.
