Most GPS units allow you to select the shortest route, or the fastest. And the shortest route is sometimes the route you would not take if you lived around there!

My portable Garmin allows me to highlight the area and then plans a detour around it.

Wouldn't do any good if you are just traveling thru, tho.

Too bad the map software doesn't contain the areas that have received the most police dispatches and route you accordingly. Then again if you are an out of town buyer you might need to be routed to crackville

at least you were in a locked truck... I ran out of gas on my motorcycle in southwest Baltimore at 3am once... had to push it into a gas station and ask some guys for directions that looked like they wanted me to leave so they could finish off the guy in their trunk.

They complimented the flame job on my motorcycle though

OK, cause I'm a photo-who**... not a great pic, but the only one I have of that bike (sold it a while back)

Ford needs to implement a GPS with recidivism rates for all locations!

A few years ago I asked the GPS to take me from Queens to Indianapolis , and it thought it a wonderful plan to drive through Manhattan during rush hour. Now I always use a map to decide and should the GPS have a different opinion it can always RECALCULATE!
