Default 8' campers who's hauling them?

I have a 2010 f150 with the 5.5 bed and was wondering if I can haul a 8' camper with the wheel wells being so far forward? will it effect handeling much with so much hanging past the rear axle?

If you read your owner's manual supplement on capacities that your dealer should have given you, you will notice that ford does not recommend using slide in campers with the 5.5' bed Screw.

True. It also says that short boxes cannot pull 5th wheel trailers due to space, and the cap potentially hitting the cab on sharp turns. A Pullrite 12K is an automatic slider with 23" of movement, which does allow 5er pulling without collision.

I think those statements are cover-their-***** statements to limit their liability. There are many short-box models, 8 ft might be a bit much for a 5.5 bed though. My opinion.

I'm more worried about the added weight on the tailgate. Do you think it will be to much for the straps?

Towing and carrying heavy loads and also loads with a high center of gravity is serious stuff. We all see rigs on the road that should not be there. Yea you can install some air bags on it and do all sorts of things to "make it work". HOWEVER if you want to be safe follow what the manufacture says are the limits of your vehicle.

I have a 2010 SCREW with 5.5 bed. At times I pull a 28' gooseneck. I used to have a superduty that would carry a load twice as big as my 150. So even though the trailer is capable and it would be VERY easy to overload my 150. I always know or have a very good idea of the weight of my load any do not exceed my vehicles rated capicities.
SAFETY first. My suggestion is to follow manufactures guidelines, Vehicle and camper or trailer.
