If you are waiting for me you will be waiting a long while.
I have no desire to participate in a debate with someone who communicates in such a mean-spirited manner.
I thought this was a DISCUSSION forum but apparently not.
I should not have been so bold as to ask a question of an Uber poster, my mistake.
I concede Sean, the Forum is all yours.
See ya.

The answers to 5th wheel towing with a short bed are in this thread. Please read if you are looking for that kind of info. The solutions are auto slider which is very heavy, manual slider or Reese Sidewinder /Revolution. As far as weights, you need to know what your truck is capable of and the loaded specs of the fiver. Having towed the same fiver with both an F150 EB Max Tow and an F350, the only appreciable difference to me is the Powerstroke is much stronger. Handling and braking were fine on the F150. But the F150 Ecoboost is the only half ton I consider capable of 5th wheel towing.

Sean, "over GVW" may not be illegal. But, in some cases, it can be considered negligent. And negligence is what will cost you in a civil suit. It doesn't have to be illegal. No laws have to be broken, but if the plaintiff's attorney can convince the jury that you were negligent, then you can be held financially responsible for damages. And then you will pay...and pay...and pay.

In October of this year, I will be entering my 4th year of towing with my 2011 Five liter, 3.55 rear wheel drive only XLT with a club cab. According to Ford, my truck is good to tow up to 9500 pounds. My first two years of towing was to tow a travel trailer and last year I started towing a 5th wheeler - a 2012 Cougar XLite 27RKS, 7,140 dry weight pounds. Purchased it in June of 2014 for $17,900.00 while it was two years old and barely used, looked brand new. The oven and sink had never been used. Anyway, my V-8 Five liter has no trouble whatsoever in towing this 30'-5" 5th wheeler. We live in it about 5 1/2 months a year near San Marcos, Texas. If you tow a light enough 5th wheel trailer, I see no problem at all in using a 1/2 ton pickup. Be on the lookout for a very good used 5th wheeler and you may be able to find a "steal." It does take diligent searching though and the ability to make a "cash deal" if possible, green cash talks. It's sure nicer in central Texas in the winters than central Illinois. By the way, I have a 6 1/2 foot bed and a 16,000 pound slider hitch. (Can't remember the exact name, I called it a club cab but I think Ford calls it something else, has the back suicide doors and is a little smaller than the bigger 4 door cab)

Insurance would not deny the claim or the policy holder can sue them for breach of contract.
Moral of the story, be smart about towing and your OK.

I know GN and 5ver are different animals, but my GN 3 Horse is closer to 12 percent pin weight when loaded with horses and 14 percent when just tack and gear are on board. I am under gawr by a hundred or so with it empty and with a over rail tool box in the bed.
With regard to negligence, you should be more worried about driver actions, like speed, following to close, cutting folks off, distracted driving etc, those are more likely to be looked at first.
