I noticed pretty big differences in signal strength and thus reception. With my regular antenna, I could search for stations and the radio would automatically pick them up. With the stubby, the stations still come in fine if I know to tune to the specific channel, however the signal strength is not strong enough to stop the radio automatically when scanning.
This was very annoying at first, but I just tuned through the band .2 MHz at a time from 88-110 and saved the stations I wanted. Since then it has been a non issue because the stations are saved.
However, when I travel out of the area on a road trip, it blows because I can't auto-search for stations.

Finally caved in and ordered one since I regretted not doing the pre-order over on FRF when I had the chance.
