5.4 spark plug change
I'm about to get the spark plugs changed on my 2010 with the 5.4. Everything I've read online says that mid 2008 ford changed the plugs to a new one piece design that doesn't break like the older two piece plugs did. However I have talked to 3 dealerships and two independent mechanics and they all say they break just as easy as the older plugs did. I would like to know if they will break or not because I don't want to pay for a broke plug fee if they don't even break. I may even tackle the job myself if the plugs aren't supposed to break.

Do it yourself, I did my '09 5.4L a couple months ago and took me less than 2 hours. No problems with the plugs. My dealership tried to tell me the same thing I think just to cover their *** in case one does break though I've never heard not one problem since it was corrected. Compared to my '97 5.4L, this one is a breeze.

Do yourself a favor and get the Lisle tool #65600 before you start .I do many 5.4's in my shop. This can end up being a big job. I am doing a 07 now with 296k on the original plugs. 2 came out ok and 6 broke off. The tool can be a life saver. I think your 10 has the new 1pc plugs.

......they can break too. I've done only three trucks now, makes me pucker each time. I bought the tool before hand and was so frustrated when I actually broke one that I couldn't gather my thoughts to use it. Dealer toldme he'd get it out and install the new one for $30. I'm not sure I'm ever changing one myself again. $240, yes, it's still 240. But I won't be all nauseous for 3-4 hrs. Like I am when I'm doing it myself. Yet, I've heard other dealers quote $6-800. That's nuts.

The last two years of the 4.6 and 5.4 they switched to a laser platinum NGK plug #5507, doesn't have the easily snapped off electrode part so you should be good, I would still give am a little penetrating oil to help but atleast it's not the old auto lite "snap plugs" as they are called.
Also it didn't matter if u had the old 4.6 or 5.4 they all had the problem

I'm not second guessing you or anything, I just want to get a feel for when I will need to change mine. I have 74,600 miles on the clock now.

Technically I believe they say 100k for those spark plugs, i will prob pull one around 90k and if it looks good ill do em around 115 instead, I'm only at 60k tho at the moment lol

This is good info thanks. my '10 has ~46K now. Im not having issues but would like to change out plugs mostly just to make sure antiseize is applied, and i cant get rid of my 'chevy vega' mindset - that plugs should be changed at least by 50k, or in the case of the vega, every fill-up
