See, this whole thing sucks. My first service report says they could hear it. Yet they are told to do nothing. Brittny recommends that I take it them again....... Magically, they hear NOTHING that time. So Ford Cust Service recommends that I use another dealer. Lo and behold.. They hear nothing. How convenient.

I have a report documenting the noise, put it on video and post it on here AND email it to the dealer, yet nothing gets done. But it looks like lots of you guys are getting help with yours. Total BS if you ask me. I have no idea what steps to take next.

I have had it looked at in early April. Like so many others the dealer said they did not hear it, but when I picked the truck up I was able to talk/show it to the tech and he said he heard it. I had it recorded on the service sheet that a knock was heard, but they said there are no fixes at this time. I need to take it back in when I get a chance because it is definitely getting worse. The problem is I need the truck for work, so it is hard for me to let them have it for a day or two.
My truck is a 2012 XLT x-cab, 4x4, with 42k miles.

If you look on some of my posts, there was a guy who had to write something he called a letter of intent. I believe it's on the lines of a pre civil lawsuit, but I think he finally got his engine block replaced. It's ridiculous that Ford, the number one selling truck company, sales these half ton trucks for 35/45 thousand and doesn't take care it's people

Piperville, I would like to know too if la_leo's did come and go. At times I have a faint knock that can be heard when the engine idles down, and you can hear it from the inside coming from the passenger side. You can also hear it outside at the passenger side. Thats what got my attention to it was from hearing it from the inside while it was at idle from a cold start. I have heard it at times when it is warmed up, hot so to speak. My build date is 4/12 and it looks like most with the knock fall into that late 2011 to early 2012. I know what the ticking fuel injectors sound like and I hear that noise too which is normal, but that other louder ticking noise is either a valve train issue or cam phaser/timing chain issue. My dealer even admits not on paper that it could be that but that it will have to get worse before they can do anything about it. I guess that means get authorization from Ford. I am a reasonable person here and understand that mass produced products can have Factory mishaps that should not get out, but it is possible and Ford is clearly aware of this by now. I had a 2011 mustang 3.7 that had a ticking/tapping on the driver side brand new. it was noticed in cold weather and went away after car warmed up. Ford engineers identified the issue and came up with a fix and FCS worked with me and this same dealership I am currently using and sent a tool down to them and they fixed it. There are post of pics and others that had to get the fix on the other mustang forums. It was cam caps on the driver side needed oil channels cut into them on top due to the 3.7 sent oil up to the top of the motor on the passenger side first. So the drivers side didn't get lubricated fast enough and this allowed it to happen and no more noise. They took care of me then so if you think you have a problem stay after it, I know its annoying. My noise is border line now but I will continue to monitor it, as it didn't do this new.

Mine was constant, but always at idle when at normal operating temperatures. I had zero noise at start up.it was every time when the engine warmed up

Wow and yet another joins in. So to me this obviously means Ford is not fixing these or admitting to anything because then they would have to do a huge recall? Make sense?
This morning it was knocking and then stopped and then started again. Now I get out and listen every time I stop so it is starting to make me crazy! I sent the invoice that la_leo posted. But when I showed the service guy at MY SECOND dealership he said "Don't listen to anything posted on Forums"...ya whatever LOL! ls67nova welcome to customer service hell. You sound exact same as me. I went to a second dealer and it was quiet. I get home and it is knocking! So USA and Canada have same **** blocks. Nice......

Hot or cold for mine but the first time I heard it was a super hot summer road trip. Maybe it got hot enough to screw something up.

How many does it take for a class action? Where is Erin Brockovich when you need her ...

My 5.0 keeps knocking in the "Shave and a haircut" fashion. Everytime I pop the hood it stops. Is this normal?

Now compare your knock to this brand new 2015 5.0 with less than 10 miles on the odometer. Show these to your Ford dealer.
