Exclamation 5.0 Engine Knock

I purchased a Certified 2011 F-150 FX4 5.0 with 34,098 miles on it in July 2014. I noticed shortly after purchasing it that it has an intermittent pronounced knock at what I believe is low idle only. It is much louder in the wheel well. I took it to the dealer for 2 other unrelated services/repairs in between and was treated great, but at 38,302 I took it back to the dealer for the knock. The service advisor stated to me that they heard the knock and compared it to other trucks on the lot and said that they hear it on those, but not nearly as loud. Was then told that the vehicle has too low of miles to tear it down and didn't want to risk taking it apart and putting it back together yet. They also stated that they have never had to rebuild or replace the new 5.0 motors in any vehicle line at their dealership and was told since I have the ESP out to 100k miles that I should drive it for a while longer. Well, I am at 41,058 and it seems more pronounced and I don't understand how this is normal or acceptable, especially on a Certified Ford. I don't want to complain, but I guess what I'm asking is do I take it back to the same dealer? Or get a second opinion. And is this actually normal? I can't believe it would be. I love this truck, but its something that bothers me everytime I hear it.

I have posted videos at the bottom of page 3 of this thread.

Thanks for reading.

That noise is DEFINITELY NOT NORMAL no matter what the service dept tries to tell you. There are some Ford customer service reps here on the forum, hopefully they will chime in and elevate your case for you so that your service dept (or a different, better one) takes care of you. Hate to say it but that is probably why the original owner traded it in.

It's strange because it doesn't do it every time the truck is running. I haven't figured out a pattern yet, but when it does it, it is very audible.

I don't really think it's anything bad. If it's a rod knock the oil pressure wouldn't be there. My truck is running fine which is odd, for such an alarming sound.

I'm not convinced this is an OK/normal sound. I have 2 good friends, one with an 11 F-150 5.0 and one with a 12 F-150 5.0 and neither have this sound. What would make this noise in this motor?

Another 5.0 here that does this....just as loud. Goes away when fully warm. I am not worried about it - have over 40K miles and its been there since new and not getting worse. Not worried because all of my research shows it is common with this motor and there are not reports of failures out there. I'd rather not have the engine torn into if it is a normal characteristic.

Yeah warm mine usually goes away also. Don't worry and keep driving.
