Default switched dealer

Well what they did makes sense. I am switching dealerships and am taking your paper with me! My truck is a 2012 and has been noisy since new. Then I noticed that knocking on top of the usual clatter. If I didn't like this truck so much I would have sold it long ago but keep hoping they can fix this ANNOYING knock.

I just wish they would quit denying that I have a knock and at least replace the short block. I know that will hurt my resale value, but I don't plan on selling anyways. And if I did, I sure can't still it with a knock like it has now.

Please let me know how it goes with the second dealer, piperville; I'll be keeping an eye out for any updates from you!

It goes in Friday. Hopefully they hear it and I can get a second opinion. I really don't want to sell my sweet truck! Yesterday it was LOUD ...

I hope they scope and diagnose yours if it is that loud. I have been back a second time for my ticking noise and a couple times about the occasional spark knock that happens at times. My dealer agrees it could be cam phaser or timing chain noise but that it will have to get worse before they can do anything about it. Like Brutes truck though my sounds like it is coming from the exhaust manifold area on the passenger side down low. I have been trying to get back in touch with FCS on my case and they have called me back a couple times we have just missed each other. So I will attempt to reach them tomorrow.

What is a spark knock? Mine is quiet today after 3 days of knocking. Of course it is....I have an appointment coming up
My first thought was an exhaust leak but they tested that. I swear my knock moves around but mostly on the passenger side.

Spark knock or detonation is what I am talking about. It sounds like valves rattle or ping when engine is at about 1100-1500 rpms under light acceleration while in higher gears 5th or 6th. When engine is in what I call lugging up a slight hill or strain in the high gears at low rpms and very light throttle. You can get it from gas or the ecu not advancing or retarding timing just right. I haven't had the issue for quite a while now and if it does once in a great while then I would be ok with that. I did clean my MAF sensor and it appears to helped. When I heard the faint knock and the ticking I first too took my truck in for what I thought was a exhaust leak and the tech said I had none. Thats when I got more concerned about the noise. I think with the computers on these trucks and the ability to advance or retard timing so much and the quality of gas can cause the ping/chatter issue. I don't think it has anything to do with a short block defect that we are seeing in some.

I think our trucks were made next to each other! I have they same issues that you are stating. I got the rattle sound on the driver side going up a hill and lugging the engine a little (1,100 or1,200 RPM).
I am taking my truck back in soon for another look. I want to talk to the tech before hand to get his opinion on the knock issue and see if he can "flatter" me by scoping the engine or specifically try to prove one of the cylinders is out of tolerance. They already said there was a knock, now they just need to fix it!

Koolponycar 45_ACP, have either of you changed your spark plugs yet?

I was getting the lovely bucking sensation when lugging my ol 06 5.4 3V uphill till i changed the plugs, then all was well till the cam phasers blew.

but possibly changing those could possibly clear that up < just a shot in the dark
