Default 4X4 Issue with 2009 F150 XL

Hey all. I have 2009 F150 XL work truck. Just bought it. (cheap). The four wheel drive is completely dead. No 4x4 light and no action from shift motor, no noises, nothing . Things i have done include:
Replace 4x4 selector switch, jumped shift motor (motor turned, and engaged fourwheel drive), replaced every relay and fuse related to the 4x4 as noted in the manual. still nothing. Would this mean i need to replace the ESOF module near the fuse panel in the cab? I am stumped. Thanks for any help from you guys!

More than likely it is the module. I bought one off a website that only sells modules and it came preprogrammed (sorry i dont remember the site) it was much cheaper than ford. There is a very good thread on 4x4 troubleshooting somewhere on this site.

Stop throwing parts at it and try some actual diagnosis. You need to start by scanning for codes with a tool capable of reading those kind of codes. Your local auto parts store scanner may or may not be capable of doing that.

I don't think a code scanner is going to pick up a diagnosis from an actuator not engaging. The one at the parts store basically tells you which check engine code is tripped.

Yes it will, the system will set a trouble code for the shift motor not properly engaging. If the T-case engages properly and locks in the front driveline it will illuminate the 4-hi indicator.

If not, it sees something wrong. The OP needs to know what the system sees wrong to fix the issue. A failed IWE would be undetectable by the system, and therefore the 4-hi light would light up.

Yeah try to diagnose more .

Even paying dealer for diagnosis could be worth it.

But the system is dead. No button, no light, no attempt to shift. Not like 4wd is selected and it attempts to shift, and goes back into 2wd. It sounds like an electrical gremlin somewhere due to the fact that he could jump it into 4x4, and a scan tool, particularly the one at parts store isn't going to pick that up.

The parts store tool may not, but most of the time this happens there is a fault code set. Without knowing what that is we are just guessing, and that gets expensive.

I agree, but you always attempt to fix the easiest problems first. He's basically eliminated everything but a rewire. IMO if the unit itself is not getting power, then it's not going to throw a code, bc it doesn't know it's being told to do anything.

What about the IWE solenoid ? don't see that mentioned ... its not a fuse or relay.
