Lol, sell the 4x4 buy a 4x2 and you'll have money left over.

I don't know what kind of terrain you plan on tackling with a 2wd truck then call it a pre runner.
So I finally got a response from Brad Deberti and his "raptor" that you are saying is a better truck being 4wd is actually a 2wd F150 with raptor glass. Do you still insist 4wd would make a better long travel desert truck???

I don't insist that. I know that 2wd makes a better long travel truck BUT you should still just buy an FX2.

what if you just remove the FX4 stickers? would that make it 2wd? or pencil a 2 over the 4?

sorry that's all i can say on the subject! i think any new truck is an expensive starting point for any kid of extensive custom build unless you are sponsored or have money to burn.

either way, good luck, should be fun I'm sure!

Wow! A lot of people getting all butt hurt over this guy. Sorry op but In my opinion I don't think turning your 4x4 into a 2wd is a good idea unless you plan to return it to 4x4 some day. Like some others have said by the time you remove or alter the 4wd system I think you would be left with a messed up truck. IMHO you would be way farther ahead to trade for an fx2. You may even be able to have some left over for mods right off the bat.

To the rest of the guys, chill out. Everyone gets so upset over everyone else's ideas. Instead of just stating your opinion, why start fights. The guy obviously doesn't want a 4wd truck. How does that affect you? Don't push your hardcore 4x4 beliefs on someone. Lol. This should be a place that's helpful, not a bunch of dicks slamming your thoughts down people's throats and if they don't conform, you tell them to leave. Really not cool.

Nobody commented about james.w's idea of trading his FX4 for someone with an FX2.

That seems a very reasonable idea - I'll bet there would be plenty of takers for that deal.

If you build something into what you want, then please post some pics!

Op had a youtube video from Brenthel Industries that showed what he wanted it to look like and do. Ok OP, did you ever contact them and see how much it would take to do that? Maybe they could at least give you some pointers on what truck to start with as a canvas for this project. Their truck looked like a standard cab 04 to 08 model year with a 6 or 8 foot bed on it. Maybe they can tell you if an FX2 could be made in the same fashion.

It seems you have no clue what you're talking about- let me ask you this, other than some YouTube video, do YOU know what a long travel desert truck is/is capable of? I doubt you do, and even supposing you now go research it and pretend you do, you clearly have no idea how to actually design a build for a vehicle.

A long travel desert truck with "20 inches of travel" will be next to impossible to daily drive. There's a reason most of those trucks are trailered to and from race events. Also, starting with an FX4 is stupid. As others have said, go buy a base model, less crap to break, less money, lighter etc. At the end of the day, you're new here, you have gained zero respect, and now YOU tell US that we have no idea what what we're doing? Ohhhh the irony.
