Default Aux backup lighting

I have an old set of PIAA foglamps, one of which still works and I was thinking about setting it up as an auxiliary reverse light. Initially my thoughts were to wire it into the trailer hitch wiring, but since I only have the 4-pin connector stock I don't see how that would work? The goal was to use some old parts up without buying anything new; would the factory backup light wiring handle an extra 55w load (doubt it)? Any other thoughts? Not going to happen if I have to buy a relay and a bunch of wire to install a custom set up. Perhaps there is someplace up the harness I can tap into for the factory 7-pin connector's reverse light circuit?

55 watt lamp will draw ~4.6 amps. I wouldnt use any wire smaller than 14AWG. Not sure what the size of wire you are considering tapping into will be. You could get an LED lamp which only draws about 1.5 amps, and cost about $10.

You can tap in to the 7pin and use the reverse to power a relay and then use the power for the aux

Spaz, I have the 4 pin connector. Do you know if/where I can tap into the wire that would supply the 7 pin reverse lead?

oh if you dont have a 7 pin then I dont know if you have any other hot in reverse. you can do 2 things run a hot all the time back to the rear of the truck off the batter pos and then use a relay and take the signal off on of the reverse lights on the bed of the truck. or get some LEDS and just run them off the reverse lights. the LED should be low enough power

Default Aux backup lighting

Hey I installed 2 flush mount LEDs in my rear bumper a few weeks ago. The lights cost about $10 each on eBay and found a video on you tube that shows how to cut the bumper to place them. I wired into the stock trailer hitch wiring and I am only drawing 3 amps but wow the lights are so bright I can see anything and everything behind my truck and my backup camera stays super clear also. I highly recommend this! Also the look of the flush mounts are superb.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-5inch-16W-CREE-LED-Work-Light-flush-Mount-Flood-beam-Offroad-Truck-Driving-/121724145317?hash=item1c57530ea5&vxp=mtrHere is a set for about $17 each. I would simply browse eBay and you can make offers on items that they do accept.

I have to admit that the ones on my truck were bought in a pack of four as well as 10 bracket mounts lights that are similar for the use n equipment on the golf course I run. I just shopped for a week for the better deals.
