Default 4.6 3valve, clicking sound low rpm

My 2010 4.6l 3v makes a very loud clicking(not ticking, clicking) sound when its idling.
Does it when just start up at idle, or when i slow down at stop light.Heres what happens, engine slowly drops rpm, when it hits around 600 rpm/lowest idle point, this very very loud clicking begins, rev the engine past 1500 rpm and completely stops, doesn't start again until it idles down to 600 rpm. Been doing it since i first got it, but its getting louder, i can hear it in the cab with stereo and air on for example. Does it all the time at exactly the same way/rpms every time. Getting to be embarrassing..

It sounds like an electrical click, almost like a timer sort of thing. Its coming from the drivers side of the motor top, but i cant pin point where.

Now on top of this it has loud valve tick/diesel sounds from the top of the motor, but being a long time ford owner i'm used to that being " normal " so this is not what im talking about.

Its almost like something electrical turning on and off at specific rpm, but its so loud its pissing me off now..

Truck has under 2,000 miles on it and bringing it in for first oil change around 3k, should i have it checked or am i setting myself up for the ol' "we dont hear it" bs

is it a singular CLICK or is it steady, I really think its just the cam phasers, or valves makeing noise. Just like the TICK sound threads that are out there. One mans tick is anothers click. I dont think its something to be concerned about.

This is a clicking, very steady. Its like something turns on at 600-800 rpm and turns off at 1500 rpm. it doesnt start at all until it reaches 6-800 rpm again. It does it all the time, doesnt matter the engine temp or anything.

As for all the valve noise, its does that too,but this isnt what im talking about.

Are you sure its not your injectors? They can be pretty loud at idle...

do the injectors only make sound on the drivers side and only at 600-1500 rpm?

There are tons of threads its either the injectors, valves, cam phasors...... there is also a TSB out for the low idle knock.

Some 2009-2010 F150 vehicles equipped with a 4.6L 3V or 5.4L 3V engine, Expedition and Navigator vehicles may exhibit a low frequency knocking noise from the engine at hot idle only. The noise is predominately heard from the right front wheel well area and/or the right hand (RH) engine cam cover. This noise may be generated from the RH variable camshaft timing (VCT) phaser assembly. This procedure was created to diagnose the RH VCT phaser assembly.

Straight from the TSB!?!?!?!

Its steady so thats good, no issues with power, MPGs? This sounds like it to me, I know my 5.4 has the loud ticking/clicking sound coming from the engine.

Check out the threads below. The sound you describe may be normal if you're refering to the injectors clicking (sounds like a noisy, loose valve train on the old solid lifter motors). On the other hand, the symptom you describe--the noise being RPM-dependent--is very close to what I experienced on my new 4.6-3V. They replaced the VVT solenoid and cam actuator in my truck at 300 miles, and I haven't heard a noise again in 16K miles.

Mine was not clicking like you say it was KNOCKING I suspect we have (had) the same issue. The service department at the dealer said all they did was change the oil from 5W-20 to 10W-40. I call BS. It was something else IMO.
All this on a vehicle with less than 50 miles. I do have to say what ever they did fixed it but I still call BS on too light an oil.
It was a bit of fun having the truck parked next to the showroom (people in and out) with drive out tags still on it knocking away

here are the links to all the known TSBs for 10's and 09's, We have lots of 4.6 3vs here where I work and they all have the ticking loud sounding engine at idle. I dont know if you think your sounds different or bad then well take it in but be prepared for the "as designed" response these are notorius for being loud. My mustang was louder than the 4.6 3vs sitting in our motor pool.
