3.7L Gas Milage question
I just bought my first new F150. 2014 XLT SuperCab 4x4 3.7L w/3.73 rear. I've only put 550 miles on it and have averaged 14.5 MPG. About 60% of that is suburban driving, 40% highway.
Will my MPG improve after I get a few thousand on the engine? If so how much can I expect?

Wait till after your first 10,000 miles and drive the speed limit. I average 18-22 in my 3.7L which is mixed highway and city. There are a lot of threads regarding each engines MPG averages for more info.

Agreed. There is a lot that factors into mpgs. Mostly driving habits Though.

After 1000 miles my overall average has been 14.7 MPG. Mostly suburban driving 35-50 MPH. Rush hour traffic is keeping my average down! On the weekends I average close to 18 MPG according to the trip computer.

Hwy mpg!!!
Driving from NC to Washington DC and back I averaged 20.1 MPG!!!! Average speed was 64.6 MPH.
With 5400 miles on the truck, the lifetime average has been 16.2 MPG. Still lower than advertised but stop and go traffic kill the MPG.

First, don't trust the mileage display on the dash, it's close but not good enough. Hand calculate the mileage. I calculate nearly every tank in my Reg Cab 3.7L (4x4 with 3.73) and live in the mountains. Driving the speed limit wherever I go, normal starts etc , I get a low of 19 to a recent high of 23.7. I fill up almost every other day, as I drive...a lot, so I calculate mileage at least twice a week...been pretty consistent. Don't really have much stop and go around here....lots of up and down mtns though

I average 15-18mpg HIGHWAY in my 3.7 2WD Scab with the 3.73s in it.
This is while driving it the same way that I averaged 17-19mpg in a V8 GMC and 20+ mpg highway in a V8 Ram.
IF I drive the thing like a little old lady and NEVER break 65mph, I MIGHT get 19 mpg out of the thirsty little bastard. My buddy's 4.6L truck gets better gas mileage, as do most 5.0 owners I talk to.
It's my number one gripe about the truck.
The irony is, if I fill up in town and run around doing errands for a few hours, I usually get home showing 19+mpg CITY. Talk about a mind-****.
