I would say for a fishing boat you would be fine with 3.55 as long as you don't go to a larger tire but I love my max tow package because of the mirrors and I easily get 19mpg on the highway with taller and heavier tires.
THer eis a huge difference between 3.55 on a 5.4L and 3.55's on a 5.0L!!
With the 5.0L the 3.55 gears aren't near as bad...the motor has more umph to push the truck through the gears than your old 5.4L.

The 3.55 gears (I have E-Lok too) have been fine and even with larger tires and and attune it is fine as well. Granted 3.73 are better for 35" tires...but the lack of power is minimal with my 285-60-20s

the 5.4 has more low end than a 5.0..Gimme some of whatever your smoking cause My truck with 305 55 20s and 355s can barely turn the wheels in 4wd from a stand still if yours in any kind of sand or deep-ish mud!! it struggles big time unless you already have some speed.

4.10s are for 35s. thats why they come in the raptor... 373 with 33s would be better but im still going to a 410.

I have the 3.55 gears and haul an 18 foot duck boat just fine. I am running stock tires and in the hill country of e tn. I've also pulled some dual axle trailers loaded down and have 0 complaints.

Don't worry about it. Buy the truck you like and let the transmission worry about it.

True only if you are deaf......I never want to listen to a 5.4 again at 4,000 rpm in third gear straining to pull our TT up a hill......give me the EB at a nice quiet 2,900 rpm in fourth gear all day long on that same hill.
I'll give you that the 5.0 probably sounds a little better at high rpm's than the 5.4..... But the 5.0's peak torque is also made at even higher rpm's than the 5.4.

I've had and driven both with a 5.0, don't really tow or haul much so all I can give you first hand is MPG.

2011 XLT 5.0 3.55...around low 16 to low 17 city mpg, 18 to 19 hwy (4x4), this is with 275/65/18's

2012 FX4 5.0 3.73...around low 15's to low 16's city mpg, low to mid 17 to mid 18 hwy (4X4), with 275/60/20's.

Certainly can tell a difference with the 3.73 holding gears better, doesnt downshift as much as the 3.55. Lower mpg overall, I suppose from the difference in wheel tire diameter / weight. I think with towing or hauling a good bit of weight you'd be much better -w- the 3.73. The slight loss of gas mileage doesnt really bother me too much, happier with the 3.73.
