Has to be cold enough. This time a year is kind of hit or miss mostly miss for the seats comming on with autostart. In the winter they come on every time I autostart my truck. Only thing I don't like is they don't remain on once you put the ignition to run. You have to turn them back on. But I can live with that because they are already toasty warm.

I have had this debate with my dealership a lot over the last year. The only time my seats appear to turn on when I remote start is when they are turned on when I turn the key. I know it says they will turn off again one you actually start the truck, but not often then than mine are showing as on. Exactly backwards to how they are designed. Dealer has no idea what is wrong.

It says "Auto" so i wonder what conditions must be met for them to turn on? just has to be cold enough?

this is the direct quote i got from my service manager:

"When the driver seat and/or passenger seat is set to AUTO mode, the driver/passenger heated/climate controlled seat activates in full heat mode when the outside temperature is less than 0°C (32°F) and full cool mode (climate controlled seats only) when outside temperature is greater than 27°C (80°F) any time the vehicle is started using the remote start feature. No heated/climate controlled seat adjustments are recognized during remote start operation. When the ignition is cycled to the ON position after a remote start event, the heated/climate controlled seat switches off. "

For me it clearly does not operate like that. Heated seats will come on whenever they feel like it it seems.

Sounds to me that the service manager doesn't know how they are supposed to work

IF they are on during remote start and those parameters are met for them to be switched on, then they will absolutely be on when you turn the key on as well. A/C seats work the exact same way.

I have only had my heated seats turn on with remote start maybe 2 or 3 times here in TX because it just doesn't get cold enough, but each time, they remained ON after turning the key on.

The A/C seats in my truck now are VERY often used and are often on during remote start. Each time I turn the key on, they stay on.

This is the way mine and about 3 other trucks that I've tried this on have operated. So again, sounds to me that the service manager needs to better educate himself.

I guess my experience(using the remote start) is the seat heating or cooling will come on(when outside temp threshold is met) no matter what position the control was left in. Which brings up a small sore spot for me. Why won't the heating or cooling resume when you restart the truck, without having to push the da_m button every time?!?! I am really afraid of wearing out the display screen. Up here on the frozen tundra, you gotta push pretty darned hard on that screen to make it work at -25 degrees.

That's not how mine works. I have a 2014 FX4 402A package, and here's how mine work (which is exactly as it was explained to me and I THINK it's also as described in the manual)

I have all my stuff other than the rear window defrost set to auto. Rear window defrost is set to OFF. It's been above 80F most of the time since I got my truck. I remote start my truck basically 99% of the time. When I get in the truck, the A/C is on full blast, and the seat coolers are working (on) as well. As soon as I turn the key to the "run" position, ALL of that shuts off and/or reverts back to how it was when I last turned the truck off - WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEATED/COOLED SEATS.

Those turn off no matter what when the key is turned to the run position, even if they were on when I last turned the truck off.

From my understanding, the auto function for the climate controls and seat climate stuff is only there to help prepare the truck for you when you remote start it ... but it expects you to set everything to your own liking once you are in the truck and put the key in the run position.

I have absolutely no complaints as to how the system works for me (which is as designed from what I can tell). Not only does it operate as designed, but I think it's designed exactly how it should be designed.

My '13 Larait does the same thing. I remote started it Saturday morning as it was cold and raining and noticed the seat was nice and warm when I climbed in.
